Is sleep deprevation (restriction??) taking its toll now? Every day it's a struggle to keep my eyes open, even after a night of decent sleep (or maybe this is the sign that I'm much more dependent on my glasses). Uh oh. Crap. I'll look "tired" for the rest of my life.

Anyway, I finished my last class of Winter quarter. It ended with my Japanese class. Last Thursday I did my presentation about what I want to do with my life after graduation and compared options from the US and Japan. It seemed as though the class liked it; aside from the presentation about games, I had one of the few presentations that connected with any Japanese popular culture.

So yeah, talked about costume design. Haha. Thinking back to how I even got into it always amazes me. It was a string of connections that could arguably begin with my exposure to SailorMoon as a kid. Reflecting on this I wandered to youtube to watch the opening scenes XD

Interest in Sailor Moon (and influence of brother with video games like Super Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog) led to:

~interest in ROMs to play Sailor Moon SNES games (which I couldn't understand at the time)

~~discovered a cute little game called Harvest Moon (umm yes... I downloaded it thinking it had something to do with SailorMoon. How embarrasssing)

~~~ventured into other games, after liking the fantasy creation and role-playing of Harvest Moon, such as Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger
~~~~rented other anime tapes (yes, tapes!) from the rental store my parents would take us to

~~~~~started getting interested in Japan after learning all these things were from Japan, an admittedly superficial interest at first
~~~~~~nearly accidentally went to Japan Expo in 2001 with my parents after being invited by family friend with extra tickets: I went expecting to gorge on anime goods, where I ended up discovering cosplay

~~~~~~~uhh yeah... cosplay
~~~~~~~~interested in studying fashion design, since I enjoyed making things for cosplay, and so took costume design classes at UCSD because it doesn't offer anything like fashion

~~~~~~~~~ultimately came to love costume design and the creative freedom not very prevalent in the ready-to-wear fashion industry.
So there it is. I'd like to think tying in games, anime and cosplay in my presentation made it more interesting for people in a Japanese language class lol.
I guess the first few things could be the histories for a lot of people, but I still consider that random chance attendance to Japan Expo to be the pivotal moment in my life. So crazy.
[Edit:
How interesting that this song should pop up at the end of writing my entry. When I get worried about my future and my ability to succeed, I find this song to be very inspirational.]
