This is one of the many things I waste my time in *sigh*
Why do I love no.6 to bits?
No.6 owns my heart and it did almost immediately. It was love at first chapter! I saw the opening once last year, cause it’s very eye-catching, but wasn’t that intrigued to watch further. First there were a lot of polar opinions about if the anime was shounen-ai or not, and after some major deceptions I encountered shamelesly disguised as shounen-ai, I wasn't in the least interested in a post-apocaliptic, futuristic steel-coated BL sham, which I thought no.6 to be.
What a ginarmous mistake I made!
Another example to add to my list of life-proves-me-wrong list. Those many times before that you didn’t think something could be of your interest and just checking, you give whatever it is a chance and turns out to be cathartic, squealing experience? I love that list.
Well, no.6 is definitely no.1 in that list. It even surpassed Suicide Room and I thought nothing would surpass Suicide Room a few months ago. This has nothing to do with contents or plot, the privilege spot where no. 6 is right now, was once Taeyang, Jiro Wang, Herb’s position as well. The list is about shows, people, books, anything in which I had little or no expectation to like and it happened to blow my mind away when I looked more carefully.
But why is no. 6 my new found baby in this vast world?
Well, simply this anime kept showering my heart with kisses every single episode. First, it's post-apocaliptic, futuristic world... with trees and flowers!
They don't live in spaceships! \(^o^)/
I know no.6 -the city- is “bad” yada yada, but it’s so green and pretty. And what about the Sampos? Those cutesie robbots who pick up garbage?
Are you kidding me? No. 6 is utopia for environmental engineering. I want to work with the scientists who built the city! Without the barbaric deeds involved that is. They're even able to come up with a special composition of the air and redo the atmosphere! -you walk out of no.6 and the sky looks like Hell, literally-
However there’s one particular motive that win me over about this story and no, it was not the above…
The absolute core of my love for no.6 is the SionxNezumi love.
No this is not my inner fujoshi striking again, well not entirely. First, this series is shonen-ai , so there's at least a hundred more series and OVAS I could be worshiping right now if this was just about two cute boys together, but then I'm a mental case of a sucker for boys love, which means that if the couple of this amazing series would have been a girl and a boy, this post wouldn't have been made or even thought of being made.
The real deed here that explains my deep afinity with SionxNezumi and consequently no.6, lays upon the beautiful bond that was born between the two kids and which comes from a genuine act of kindness.
Sion helped Nezumi when he most needed it. No everybody would have helped Nezumi, yes not everybody in that futuristic flawless city they live in would have cared to aid the dying 12 year old's wounds. That kind of kid doesn’t occur in No. 6 ever, he’s a fugitive that explains it, but the proper reaction would have been to call the police and have the boy arrested for messing with the city's perfection. Sion though...
He's the mirror of love! And do I love good-hearted boys or do i love good-hearted boys? It might look like he was just doing the right thing, but where he lives, the right thing is pretty distorted and nobody can tell.
Then, right in the middle of my squealing over the cuteness of the story, how much I love Sion and what a pedo-noona I was with Nezumi becasue his voice is the segshiest ever, this scene appears and...
The devil is released. It came to let me know the truth, because indeed I was right. I have seen that cold expression somewhere else before and yes!! Nezumi is his 2D clon!
Doesn’t this cold- looking kid remind you of someone? Someone with pale withe skin, large eyes and beautiful features?
And if Nezumi is Mr. X, then it's more than evident that the gentle Sion is Mr. Y, being as friendly and innocent to distrust people makes perfect sense. And boy doesn't he look exaclty like him too.
So, who are Mr. X and Mr. Y?
Yes, it’s them
Uri YunJae
This was my face then. Throughout the whole series, it didn’t change. Scratch the beard and mustache, but they’re so many things that reminded me of YunJae looking at Sion and Nezumi and I was too moved not to spazz about it.
Just to clarify and gain some credibility here. It might seem so, but I'm not that desperate to call YunJae whenever there's two kids in love or something. Consciously and subconsciously I'm always looking for the similarities whenever I watch BL, I admit it, I’m YJ shipper and I’m starving, be lenient with my situation. However only when I'm completely pleased with the characters as they have the YJ essence above the inconsistencies, that's when is time for me to announce it and consequently love floods my heart towards the series.
Sion and Nezumi's love is a reflexion of YunJae's love. To me Yunjae and kindness are synonyms. Those two went through a lot together and they were there to help each other and hold hands. Sion and Nezumi are like that from beginning to end. Their gestures and their looks for each other are filled with love.
So from episode one, I was beginning to love Nezumi and Sion as an AU version of YunJae. As I watched episode I was not dissapointed, but more and more convinced.
-Look at Nezumi’s face and tell me you haven’t seen that kind of stare from Jae towards Yun-
