And when the story broke, at first he didn’t believe it, because Hankyung would have told him, he would have known, there would have been hints there would have been signs.

And when Kyuhyun posts his cryptic message in a language that is both as strangely familiar as it is distinctly foreign, he throws three coffee mugs at his bedroom wall in quick succession, coffee splashing against the plaster like a blood spatter.

The thing is, Hankyung loves Heechul. He loves him as his first friend in a foreign country, he loves him as a champion onstage and in back alleyways, he loves him as a steady drunk, wicked tongue shining through his slur, he loves him as a best friend and nothing more.

And when Heechul finally responds himself to the situation it’s not in anger or in sadness or even in bitterness. He is tired of treasuring their friendship beyond what Hankyung sees it, tired of wanting every touch and joke to mean more than Hankyung intends it, and he is tiring of wondering whether this hit will be Super Junior’s last, Kibum and Kangin and Zhou Mi. He responds because it is expected of him, he can no longer truly bring himself to care.

The thing is that Heechul and Hankyung love each other, but not in the way Hankyung thinks it and not in the way Heechul wishes it.

Hankyung wants for his best friend, his oldest confidant to help him in this time of conflict and confusion.

But the thing is, Heechul is tired of knowing everything and getting nothing, and so his response is blank silence against the dark of his webpage.
