Concert report, Nagoya Dome 2018.12.14
Note: this report is based on what I could remember, it would be less accurate and there would be blank spaces here and there.
The wind was very strong in Nagoya compared to Tokyo, it was enough to freeze your bones, no matter how thick your coats were. I’ll start from before we enter the dome, so please bear with it for a little while, because it would be no fun if we didn’t reckon the process, life is not about the best part, right?
I went to Nagoya on Friday morning with my husband and arrived there around one pm. The gate was opened at four pm, so we had three more hours to go. The bad news was unlike Tokyo, Nagoya had fewer cafés and malls nearby the dome. The only place to kill the time was the A*** mall which located right in front of the dome. The second bad news was the limited number of toilets, even though there were enough of them, they were insufficient to occupy 40 thousand ladies (and some gentlemen).
I watched the concert together with
eiko_lotus,
clairdwinter, and her mom. We entered the dome right at four pm; I prepared my jfc member card as well as ID card, but it turned out that the staffs didn’t need to check them. I got my barcode ticket scanned and the printed ones. The seats number were using balloting system as well and we were lucky enough to get arena seats - close enough to the main stage. Contrast to the cold air outside, it was warm inside the dome, either it was because too many people or the heater worked too well. We waited for about one and a half hour before the concert began. The stage was a little bit similar to ‘Untitled’ with the massive screen, moving stage, center stage, as well as the moving carts.
The concert started at six pm. The huge screen displayed 5x20 logo, followed by members’ introduction from Aiba, Nino, Sho, Jun, and Ohno. Arashi appeared from the revealing curtain, Ohno was at the center. They wore the flowery red costumes and opened the concert with ‘Kansha Kangeki Ame no Arashi’. They moved to the moving stage and sang ‘Oh Yeah’, ‘Step and Go’, ‘Kotoba Yori Taisetsu na Mono’ and ‘Find the Answer’.
The lighting off after ‘Find the Answer’ and the main screen started playing the clip where all of them looked like mafia. The four members, except Aiba were chased down by strange darkness, they disappeared into dust when the darkness touched them. Aiba was the only one remained and smiled to the camera - so handsome. ‘I’ll be There’ intro started and Aiba appeared with green costume which looked like a judge or perhaps a noble?
Note: There was no solo performance in this concert, every member got their own corner, followed by the songs from the drama they played.
On ‘Meikyu Love Song’, members spread around and Jun was right beside our row, he was skinnier compared to how he looked on TV. He waved and smiled to the fans (he mistaken the choreography on this song which would be pinpointed during their MC talk) but none of us aware of it. Then they sang ‘La Tormenta 2004’ (they changed into simple white costumes here), ‘Breathless’, ‘Everything’ and ‘Hatenai Sora’. The latest was Nino’s corner where he sang the ref part all by himself.
Next was Sho’s corner; he put off his white jacket while walking towards the piano on the left stage. He played the intro for ‘Aozora no Pedal’, the other members appeared behind the transparent curtain and started singing. In the middle of the song, Sho asked all the fans to sing with them; Aiba was the one who gave us the code. The section continued with ‘Fukkatsu Love’, ‘Believe’, ‘Lucky Man’, ‘Ai wo Shakebe’, and ‘Natsu Hayate’. They moved away from the main stage and it was very hard to keep an eye on one member since their movement was very fast. I tried to spot where Ohno was for the whole concert, so I didn’t really pay attention at the screen where they played some interesting clips.
They did MC talk after ‘Natsu Hayate’. Nino mentioned Jun’s mistake during ‘Meikyu Love Song’ and made fun of him. Their talk was amusing as always, where Nino proudly mentioned the awards he received for the best supporting actor for his role in ‘Kensatsu gawa no Zainin’, as well as his previous Japan Academy Award. Each member made an announcement, especially Sho’s upcoming Kouhaku and Rugby cup. Nino’s announcement was about ‘Black Pean’ DVD, Jun was about the upcoming NHK drama, Aiba was about the old lady he met at the pet shop (if I’m not mistaken), and Ohno was about his recent haircut. He and Jun left the stage earlier for changing.
After the MC, Jun appeared as a conductor with white costume. He led the special ‘5x20’ orchestra; they played ‘’Cool & Soul’, ‘My Girl’ and ‘One Love’ with very nice music arrangement. When Jun’s section ended, the light went off and Ohno appeared with red costume. He danced solo with great choreography and wonderful lighting effect. They sang ‘Face Down’, ‘Tsunagu’, ‘Crazy Moon’, ‘Sakura’, and ‘Truth’ with remix version which was very cool.
The light went off once again, another video was played, this time with time going backwards to 1999, continued with ‘A.RA.SHI’. They recorded the same PV with their current look which was very cute. The next songs were ‘A Day in Our Life’, where Jun and Ohno held each other on the main stage, I guess they were touching each other’s butt.
They moved all the time during ‘Hadashi no Mirai’, ‘Sakura Sake’, ‘Kitto Daijobu,’ ‘Monster’, ‘Troublemaker’, Wild at Heart’, ‘GUTS’, and ‘Kimi no Uta’. Ohno was so cool for the whole concert, he gave fan service, waved a lot, smiled a lot, fished a lot.
They delivered their speech after ‘Kimi no Uta’. Some fans on twitter posted there was a problem on the moving stage where it got stucked and couldn’t reach the main stage on time, so they did the speech from there.
Sho was the first, he talked about the importance of the other four members; that Arashi wouldn’t be the group we know today without the other four. Ohno mentioned his 18-year-old self and how he never guessed that he could do the work as an idol until 38. Aiba talked about the fans and the upcoming ‘and more’ tour. Nino talked about his grateful towards the fans where so many people loved Arashi. Jun spotted there were more couples attending their concert which showed that Arashi vibe was spreading not only for women and girls, but also to the people around them.
They sang ‘5x20’ after the speech; it was the same melody with ‘5x10’, but with different lyrics. They left the stage afterwards.
For the encore, they appeared with pink suits which you probably already saw on social media. They sang ‘Fight Song’, ‘Energy Song’, Pikanchi Double’, ‘Love so Sweet’, and the last was ‘Happiness’. Ohno waved and fished the fans on the tribune seats. There were many fans who carried his uchiwa with bright yellow kanji character (four people on the row with ‘智大好き’, ‘大野智’ or ‘釣って’).
Since Ohno is my bias, I couldn’t stop staring at him during the whole concert. He was skinnier and shorter compared to how he looked on TV, but he was cool and professional.
The concert ended at 9.30 pm, the staffs guided the people on tribune seats first to leave the dome and we got the last turn.
PS: What I wrote here probably not a hundred percent correct, because I couldn’t grab the whole thing, the other fans perhaps had their own version. They moved very fast during the whole concert. Let’s wait for the DVD/BR for more details.
