Aiba picked them that evening; he gladly informed Sho that Ohno had agreed to come to his hometown, along with Kazu. He replied shortly and let Aiba help him to stuff his bag in his car trunk. Jun joined them a few minutes later; he wore his usual red shirt above a white tank top - Sho didn’t know whether it was just his imagination, but Jun always looked stylish, even in the simplest clothes.

“O-chan will arrive by tomorrow morning,” Aiba said, helping Jun to fasten his seatbelt. “I bet you already missed him a lot.”

“Surely is,” Jun said as Sho chose to keep quite.

The couple kept on talking along the way; their topic mostly about music and movies and sometimes, Aiba’s customers at the city. Sho was only half-listened to them; his mind wandered everywhere - to his house, to Ohno, to the plantations that they used to go, to the river where he and Jun soaked together and to his unexpected pregnancy. Aiba’s car went through a thick darkness for around an hour before reaching a small village with many lights on the road side. Sho watched them passed by without really paying attention; he missed to be with Ohno in their house, cuddling to each other and talked about random things until one of them fallen asleep. He missed Ohno’s cooking as well; but he knew he would need a few months before he could taste it again.

“Sho san, we are here.”

Jun’s voice reached his ears; he had just realized that the car had stopped in front of a house. Jun and Aiba got down from the car, taking their belongings from the trunk. Sho followed their movement; he swung his bag to his shoulders and waited for Aiba to lead them inside.

The house was a typical village style; it had a quite large front yard with a spot to play basketball. Sho pictured Aiba played here when he had enough free time, his thoughts must have been shown from his expression.

“Jun and I often played basketball,” Aiba said. “Before he got pregnant.”

“He’s horrible,” Jun commented as he slid out a key from his own knapsack.

“Aiba’s father’s house is around fifteen minutes from here,” he told Sho. “We can go there tomorrow together with your husband and son.”

Sho nodded, his throat was too dry to speak an answer.

Aiba showed him to their guest room; meanwhile Jun was busily checking every corner.

“He will scold me if he finds something which is not on its place,” Aiba said. Sho wasn’t so surprised, he had seen Jun cleaned every little corner at their shared house; wiping the kitchen three times a day and making sure that the floor was free off dust.

“I haven’t cleaned this room, I hope it’s okay with you,” Aiba said with apologetic tone to Sho as they entered the room.

“I don’t mind,” Sho shook his head, putting his bag on the bed and scanning his surroundings. There was a big closet at the corner and a small working desk at the other corner, a broken sewing machine was beside the desk. It seemed that Aiba used this room as a temporary storage.

“Have a good night,” Aiba said.

“Thanks.”

Sho put off his cardigan as Aiba left the room, he plopped his back on the bed, starring at the ceiling above. He could hear summer bugs chirped outside; something that he never heard in Tokyo. He closed his eyes; trying to sleep. His exhausted body seemed waited for this; he didn’t need a long time to fall asleep.

Ohno held Kazu’s hand tightly as they walked out of the train. It was Saturday morning; the train wasn’t that full - there were only a few elderly couples who headed the same direction with them. He tried to find Aiba among the crowds but it was almost impossible. Ohno slid out his hand phone and made a phone call to the tailor.

Aiba picked up almost immediately, informing that he was waiting for them at the parking area near an oak tree. Ohno ended the call and hoisted Kazu up to make it faster. It was the first time for Kazu to travel this far by train, his small hand clutched on Ohno’s neck, and his eyes traveled the crowd but he showed no sign of being panic or anything.
“Sorry to keep you waiting,” Ohno said as he found the man; his usual smile formed on his lips.

“I have just arrived here,” he said. “Hello, Kazu kun.”

Kazu flinched, but he let Aiba take his hand, “Come, let me carry him, meanwhile you take care of your stuff.”

“It’s not that many.”

But Aiba didn’t listen; he took Kazu from him and hoisted him up happily. They left the station five minutes later; Aiba told him that Sho and Jun were home and probably had finished preparing breakfast by now. Ohno couldn’t picture what he felt; he wanted to meet Sho but there was something else inside his chest and he didn’t know what it was.
Sho was enjoying the morning air in front of Aiba’s house when they got there. He looked calm and content which made Ohno relieved. He craned his neck towards Ohno as he got down from the car, his lips curved in a weak smile.

“Satoshi,” he called his name with tiny voice, but it was still audible.

“Sho,” Ohno approached the man and pulled him into a tight hug, not really care that they were in front of Aiba’s house which was so close with the street where people passed by. “Are you okay?”

“Surely I am, Jun took good care of me,” Sho said, pulling himself further from Ohno. He took Ohno’s hand and led him inside. Aiba and Kazu went inside ahead of them; the kid was eating a slice of bread when they got in.

“Ohno kun, how are you?” Jun greeted him. Ohno remembered his slight of jealousy towards Jun and he felt stupid now.

“Great,” Ohno answered. “I bring cookies for you,” he added.

“Masaki carried them inside,” Jun said, gesturing him to sit down, “your cookies are the best thing I’ve ever tasted.”

“T-thanks,” Ohno nervously glanced at Sho, he couldn’t handle compliment too well, it made him discomfort.

They went to Aiba’s father’s house as the breakfast finished. Kazu was with Aiba all time, giving Ohno and Sho time for their selves.  They walked further through a path, heading the tomato field with small baskets in their hands. Sho happily told him about what he had done in the hospital with Jun; about the rose field and a small river where he and Jun took a bath together.

“I’m glad that you like the place,” Ohno said. They squatted side by side, picking the tomatoes in front of them. Aiba had told them that they could eat as many as they liked and Ohno wouldn’t waste that chance.

“I’ll return as soon as possible, I can’t leave you alone for any longer,” Sho said as he took Ohno’s hand and squished them softly.

“Take all your time, I’m in no hurry,” Ohno said. He leaned closer and kissed Sho’s temple, “I still want you and Kazu to develop good progress. He’s doing well recently.”

“I’m sorry for Kazu, he is…” Sho couldn’t continue, he averted his gaze to the far end.

“He’s a gift that we have to cherish,” Ohno finished his hanging sentence, “I have found a good daycare by Ogura san’s help,” he continued. “You don’t need to worry about me, I can manage everything. Just focus on yourself.”

“Thank you,” Sho whispered. He rested his head on Ohno’s shoulder, forgetting their real intention to pick up tomatoes.
“What do you think of Jun?” Ohno asked.

“He’s a nice doctor;” Sho answered almost immediately, “his cooking is good, although they aren’t as delicious as yours.”

I’m honored,” Ohno chuckled. He couldn’t completely erase an unpleasant twinge on his stomach when he imagined Sho and Jun shared a room. But, it was for the best, he had no right to complain or jealous over stupid thing.

They returned around noon to Aiba’s place. Jun happily told them that they would have barbecue for their lunch, so he needed their helps to prepare. Kazu was sitting on a wooden chair when Ohno approached him and he did something which made Ohno’s heart jumped to his throat.

He smiled.

No way.

Ohno leaned closer to his son to make sure that his eyes didn’t trick him. Kazu was smiling - his numbed Kazu, he reached the kid’s shoulders and squished them.

“Kazu…” he called.

Kazu’s smile - which was something new for Ohno still decorated the kid’s face. He couldn’t put it into words, it was too overwhelming and he was afraid to avert his gaze away. He didn’t want to lose that smile.

“My Kazu is smiling,” he said carefully. He stroked the kid’s hair softly and pulled him to his embrace, he wanted to announce the world that his beloved son could smile, like the other billion people on planet earth. But, all he could do was wrapping him tightly in his arms as if he hadn’t met the boy for a long time.

“O-chan,” Aiba’s voice was heard behind him.

“Aiba kun,” he said, craning his neck to the tall man. “My son has just smiled,” he told the tailor. Aiba’s face softened, he moved closer to Ohno and placed his hand on Ohno’s shoulder.

“Perhaps, Kazu kun is waiting for this day to come, to show you his best smile.”

“I’m so happy that I could cry,” he told Aiba shyly.

He wanted to tell Sho about this; but he didn’t know where to start. Besides, Sho seemed didn’t bother to interact with Kazu at all. They were too busy preparing lunch and Ohno knew that Sho tried to stay as far as he could from the kid. Ohno understood what Sho felt after what happened that night, but he still hoped that Sho would open up for their second child again.

***
The next day, Sho went alone to Aiba’s father’s tomato field. It was early in the morning; Ohno was still sounding asleep when he left. He wrote a short message for Ohno in order not to worry him. This village was another place to think peacefully; he sat down in the middle of tomatoes, looking up to the morning sky. Today would be as hot as usual; he extended his hand to one of the tomatoes, observing its shape. He hadn’t found the way to tell Ohno about his pregnancy. He heard what Ohno told Aiba about Kazu, about him finding his ability to smile. Maybe, for normal people it wasn’t a big deal but not for him and Ohno. Knowing Kazu could do something like smiling was rather shocking. He didn’t know how to react to that, so he pretended that he didn’t care, pretended that he didn’t want to know.

“Do you like this field?”

He was taken aback to see Aiba stood right behind him, he didn’t hear his footsteps at all.

“Aiba san, I’m sorry that I came here without permission.”

“It’s okay, you can come anytime you like.”

Aiba sat down right next to him; he looked up to the sky, following Sho’s sight.

“Kazu kun takes after you,” Aiba opened the conversation, he placed his right hand on one of the ripe tomatoes, picked it up and smelled it.

“Do you think so?” Sho said, not sure how to reply to Aiba’s sudden statement. He had just known Aiba for short period and only heard about him from Ohno’s story. Nevertheless, this man was just like an old friend, as if they had met long time before this - only that he couldn’t remember when or where.

“His smile resembles yours,” he continued.

If it was someone else, Sho would have stopped him and told him not to talk about Kazu anymore, but he couldn’t do that to Aiba.

“I like that kid, Ohno kun told me that he might have some kind of talent in music.”

“Satoshi told you such thing?” Sho confirmed with tiny voice, “I don’t know that kid that much. I mean…”he hesitated to continue. “We have complicated relationship, as if I had never given birth to him at the first place.”

“You should try to love him,” Aiba said. “Maybe, if you give him your unconditional love…” the tailor let his sentence hang up.

“I don’t know,” Sho shrugged, “I haven’t told Satoshi that I’m pregnant. I’m confused over everything.”

“P-pregnant?”

Sho nodded.

“We never talked about having child again, especially with my condition,” Sho said as he picked a tomato and tasted it.
“You’ll be okay. I think Kazu kun is okay too, you just need to give him more love,” the tailor said lightly.

“Everybody told me that, Satoshi, Jun, you.”

“Because it’s supposed to be that way,” Aiba said, placing his hand on Sho’s shoulder. “Do you want to eat strawberry? My acquaintance owns a fruit shop near here.”

Without thinking any further, Sho followed the tailor’s step.
***

Ohno and Kazu would go back to Tokyo, ahead of Jun and Sho. Aiba gave them a full bag of tomatoes; the taller told him to share them to his colleagues at the bakery. Sho hugged Ohno tightly as he was ready to depart and gave a hesitated smile to Kazu.

“Call me, once you get home,” Sho said.

“Sure,” Ohno replied; fixing Sho’s bangs.

Jun and Aiba walked them towards the station, both of them said good bye properly to Kazu, but Sho didn’t show any signs that he wanted to do so.

“Come to hospital next time,” Jun winked.

Ohno nodded. He hoisted Kazu up and got ready to get on the train.

“Satoshi,” Sho called, Ohno lifted his eyebrows, questioning him. It seemed that Sho wanted to tell him something but it stopped half-way. The train had come and they had to separate. Ohno stepped in; holding Kazu tighter in his arms. He waved his hand at the three men outside, wishing that he could stay there.

Kazu waved at them as well; but it didn’t last long, he rested his head on Ohno’s shoulder as the train ran faster. Ohno heaved a deep breath and leaned his head to the seat; thinking that he might ended up like Sho. Visiting Aiba’s village had brought a new sensation for him.
