Update, update, update

Tech Toys 360! Tuesdays! 8:30 PM EST/PST! On Discovery Velocity! (Yes, that’s a network that you probably have!)

It’s been a deceptively long time since I properly updated this. Admittedly, it’s partially out of laziness, partially because I discovered the black hole of time that is Google Reader. Did you guys know you can add any RSS feed to it? What wonders Google creates! I can read Vulture and A.V. Club whenever I want! I mean, I could do that before, but now with everything in one convenient page, I would remember that they exist. And the best/worst day of my professional life was the day I discovered you can subscribe to Tumblrs on Google Reader. Oh, the amount of time wasted and the GIFs saved!

Silliness aside, a lot of my time has been spent on that show I linked to up there, on which I’m the (official title alert!) Production Coordinator and (unofficial title alert!) social media guru. It’s a tech show aimed at guys who like expensive vehicles and tech-y stuff. Clearly, I am not part of the target demographic. Still, I think it’s a genuinely good show. There are ridiculous water vehicles that look like dolphins, sound amplifiers that turn flat surfaces into speakers, and shiny cars. What’s not to like?

Anyway, now that we’re scary-close to the end of the year, I’ve come to realize that the last 12 months have bee something of a whirlwind: I quit my forever-long internship that I loved but didn’t actually get paid for, got a second internship that turned into a full-time job, and been involved in producing the aforementioned television show that resulted in my own IMDB page (My own! IMDB! Page! Me?!) and my name in that ever-familiar Discovery Network end credit font. Granted, it’s Discovery Velocity and not Discovery Channel proper, but it’s still a little crazy to see your name on something you DVR’ed.

At some point, I should write a little more about how I was thrown into the insanity that is TV production and the things I inadvertently learned (e.g. Post-Its are amazing, spreadsheets are your best friend, there is such a thing as too much caffeine, etc.). For now, I'll just have to settle with the feeling of accomplishment that I've actually written something that isn't a formal e-mail or something Parks and Rec-related. The latter subject is another long-winded post for another time.

real life blah blah, work, parks and rec
