Wow. Didn't see that one coming.

I mentioned in my last post that I received an e-mail from an internship I'd applied to that day, asking for an interview. After a few e-mails, we agreed on a Friday afternoon interview. ( It kind of went far better than I thought it would. Too bad my mental state isn't holding up as well. )

panicked flailing, internship

You're a UC student. Which means you're a perfectionist and that you're used to success. It makes TOTAL sense that you're nervous. Quite honestly, I'd be a little bit concerned if you weren't because it was suggest a hint of arrogance (which I know you don't possess). I might be the only one to say this, but you SHOULD be nervous. This is a big deal. But nerves also tend to help people like us rise to the occasion.

I understand the fear of "OMG! The entertainment industry will eat me alive!" but I honestly believe that you would be nervous regardless of what industry you were entering. It's like I told agentamy47--there's nothing more terrifying than actually getting what you want. This is different than the other jobs you've had before because this is a step toward the long-term. It's taking you in the direction of the career you've been dreaming about.

If you're anything like me, no one is going to be able to take away your nerves. Everyone around you (including me!) will have total confidence in your ability to succeed, but you won't be convinced until you actually arrive and start kicking ass at what you do. So with this in mind, I'll say that I know you will be fabulous. This Jen chick can ramble about how difficult and intimidating and chew-em-up-spit-em-out this industry is...but then she's never met YOU.

The best thing that can happen is this internship will lead you to your absolute dream job of all dream jobs. The worst thing that can happen is it won't be for you, but it will educate you on what exactly you're looking for (or not looking for) in a job in entertainment.

Seems win-win to me.

*hugs*

I just...I have no words. If you weren't a teacher, I'd suggest you go into motivational speaking because you said exactly what I needed to hear.

This is all feeling really familiar. It seems like only yesterday you were introducing me to the trials and tribulations of college life. Now, you're holding my hand as I tentatively take my first baby steps into this so-called "real world." Before we know it, you'll be coaching me through which walking cane will best suit my mobility needs. ;)

But in all seriousness, thank you and your eloquent self for always being there. I can completely see why your students want to do their best just to make you proud. =) *HUG*!
