Seeing a snow-covered statue doesn't normally bother me, but I worry about Oscar Peterson when it gets cold and snowy. He's there on Elgin Street, dressed only in a suit, sitting by his Bosendorf piano. He smiles, no matter the weather, but he's used to being inside a warm concert hall.
I don't worry about the figures on the National War Memorial - they are depicted answering the call to war. What's a little snow compared to the trenches?
I don't worry about the former Prime Ministers on Parliament Hill - I'm used to seeing them with pigeons and seagulls on their heads. Most of them are dressed fairly warmly, or they've been on the Hill for so long that they are part of the landscape. Weather doesn't seem to affect them at all.
But I worry about Oscar.
Then again, maybe his music keeps him warm.
