Adventure at Cosmic Adventures

Moe, Granny and I went to Cosmic yesterday for the first time. Several friends with kids Moe's age had told me how great the toddler area was. I was pretty excited - I had visions of Moe being able to crawl all over the place, have places to safely pull himself up, exciting toys to try, etc. I was excited for him to have a safe place with no "no zones" like there are at home.

We didn't have the best first impression.

There wasn't much for him to do. I should have brought his own toys - I didn't, thinking there would be plenty to keep him occupied there.

Half of the toddler area quickly became off limits to us when we noticed a series of little nuggets of poop on the floor. Mom quickly went to tell the staff, and they did come and clean it up, but we didn't want to go back to that area after that. I deemed the ballroom off limits at that point, too, since I didn't know where else the poop might be hiding in there. The bouncy chairs - which he is too old for anyway - were soiled and stained. There was a wad of gum in the tree house. The buttons in the play houses were broken.

So we stayed in the other half of the toddler area, where there was nothing to climb. The bead-and-wire toy was really loose and ready to break off. We kept Moe occupied with the stuff on the walls for a while, but it got old pretty fast. If I had brought his own toys, we'd have been okay.

The source of the poop was a 3 year old boy who was still in diapers who was wandering around the toddler area by himself with no supervision. And that was the other problem I had with Cosmic - total lack of parental supervision. That's fine for older kids, but there were 3 and 4 year olds whose parents were nowhere to be found. Perhaps they were in the Parents Cone of Silence, a lounge where parents can relax and use wi-fi while their kids play. I don't know, but I didn't feel good about it.

Cosmic looks like a great place for older kids - once they can use the tunnels, it looks like a blast. And the staff did clean up the feces quickly, which was great. But the whole experience left me feeling pretty low.

I won't bring Moe back there for a long time - not until he's old enough to enjoy the tunnels.
