Childhood bullying tends to put things into a (not-so-)funhouse mirror... it seems way worse when you are going through it than the individual acts really are. And years later, it's strange what memories can burn a hole in you when everyone else involved has long since forgotten. The effects of bullying are very serious; teenage suicides and the like. But it's often over stuff that is so small that you wish you could have said to them "Wait five years, and you will be so far beyond this

I think also when you're a preteen or teen, everything is so BIG. You're just getting a handle on these grown up emotions and they are totally overwhelming. So I agree, if we could just get kids to understand that it gets better, that would be a good start.
Thank you for sharing, and I love you and you're awesome.
I've said before that bullies are horrible - vicious sociopaths who need to be locked in a cage. They are the alphas, the strongest, cruelest, least empathetic ones. They are like flesh and blood machines, and in my experience never grow out of the power-trip they come to enjoy as children.
But; I don't consider you a bully! You were foced, for self protection, into doing something against your nature. No child should be put in that positoon. You were victimized in a brutal way - made to be what the bully was, but with all the feelings and empathy of a regular good kid.
I think at some point in every child/teen's life they are bullied...and I think everyone is also a bully at some point. I know I was bullied something fierce by some kids, but I was also pretty rotten to some others.
I really respect you for this post and for the fact that you were really able to look inside yourself like that.
