This is a million years too late but who cares, right? Better late than never as they say. Anyways, I went to Big Bang’s first concert in London at Wembley Arena on Friday the 14th of December and this is what I have to say about that experience.
First of all, I loved it. I went into the concert with high expectations because I love Big Bang and I wanted them to be great and they met each one and passed it. They were so good at getting everyone pumped up and excited and on their feet and it was just really fun. It’s definitely the best concert I’ve been to to date. I had a really good time. It was like a big, super fun party.
My favourite performance of the night is, hands down, Haru Haru. Although it’s a cross between a dance song and a ballad, they definitely toned it down for that performance and kept it very slow and meaningful. It was one of the later songs they performed and it was just very moving and they seemed to be really happy when the fans sang along. I’m not really doing it justice but I feel like that was the part of the show when as fans, we were most connected with them and them with us. Also given that that was the song that introduced me to BB, it seemed particularly fitting.
They also performed Number One which is my FAVOURITE BIG BANG SONG EVER so I was most pleased. I didn’t expect them to perform it at all (I made sure to avoid track lists or fan accounts prior to going because I wanted to be surprised) and I was! Pleasantly so! I love that song so much and the performance was greaaaaaaaaaaaat. NUMBER ONE!!!
The Fantastic Baby and Feeling performances were really fun too - just so high energy and exciting. Speaking of high energy, I would love to know where Taeyang gets his. He and Dae were bouncing all over the stage all night even during the encore. Taeyang seemed a little frustrated - he stated more than once that he felt like he wasn’t showing his best that night but I thought he did very well and I was so happy that for his solo, he performed Look Only At Me and Wedding Dress. Definitely two of my personal favourites of his. He was also quite funny - he kept pimping everyone out, especially Dae by reminding everyone that he has a solo album coming out soon and you all better buy it. Key word here being buy. lmao, yes, Teydaddy, we get it.
Dae was a total cutie and looked fantastic and I loved loved, LOVED his solo. I don’t even like Wings very much but there was something about that performance that was just so uplifting and full of life and Dae looke so happy o be on that stage and seeing him look like that was the best part. He’s been through a lot - it’s nice to know he can still be happy.
Seungri i cray. I mean, I always knew that but seeing him irl definitely confirmed that he is in fact absolutely ridiculous. He was hilarious though and so silly and hyper. He’s really like a kid. He just kept saying “are you all right?” in this really weird voice all night and it just became increasingly amusing. I’ll be honest here and say that after seeing his solo, I definitely feel like Ri is the weakest performer out of the five of them. He holds his own just fine with the others (and I’ll never be one to say he doesn’t fit in) but he just isn’t as good at commanding a stage solo as the rest of them. He tries his best to put on a show though.
GD is an interesting fellow. I was disappointed, tbh, that he performed Crayon instead of One of a Kind for his solo. I will always think that OoaK is the superior song and there were so many GD fans there and people in One of a Kind hoodies and stuff. The crowd was ready for that performance, I’m telling you. I was ready. And GD did perform some of it to TOP’s beatboxing for a bit but it wasn’t the same. I like GD though. Every time he spoke, I got the impression that he was trying really, really hard to speak English properly and to get his point across as clearly as possible and it seemed nice. You could tell he was putting in a lot of effort. He really seemed like a leader that way. He was also incredibly hyper and whizzed all over the stage until the encore when he lay down on the stage because I’m sure he was exhausted. Seeing him next to TOP during their duets was particularly interesting.
TOP. TOP didn’t talk much outside of performances. In fact, he only seemed to speak when the others prompted him to which was a little sad because hearing his voice irl is like swimming in a pool made of rich, milk chocolate. MAGNIFICENT. That being said, when he did talk, he seemed pretty shy. It was cute. Also because he spoke so little (also because he’s amazing and everyone should love him), there was SO MUCH SCREAMING every time he spoke. It was crazy. I mean, there was a lot of screaming in general but the levels got ridiculous whenever this man opened his mouth. At the end, when they were all saying a little something (after Haru Haru), he said his piece and then I guess, spurred on by the positive reaction added a quiet “I love you”. I can’t even begin to describe the screaming after that. But it was absolutely, freaking precious and TOP continues to be the most adorable human being on the planet. Fact.
Also did I mention that his voice is I N S A N E? Especially when it’s amplified by a million speakers and being drilled into your ears. I’m not sure there is a better sound in the world, honestly.
He is also really, really, ridiculously good-looking! I only wish that I was sitting closer so that I could have seen his face up close. :(((( I’m also sad because TOP did not have a solo. I was saving room on my camera to film it and then nothing occurred. I was all set for Turn It Up, oppa. WHAT HAPPENED. :((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((( Forever sad about that. Also TOP really is quite stiff on stage but even so, he is definitely charismatic. Even from so far away, I could feel the intensity radiating off of him. I think the best way to describe him is contained. He comes across as though there’s all this pent up intensity smouldering behind his serious expression and stiff, robotic dancing and you guys, it’s just absolutely magical.
I did worry though that he wasn’t enjoying himself as much as the others during the encore because the others seemed so waaaaaaaaaaaah~ (except GD who looked like he needed water and the longest nap ever) while TOP was just sort of bobbing around on stage by himself but then he started doing this weird sort of swaying dance and I thought ‘I guess that’s his way of loosening up’. idk, it’s hard to read him but in brighter news, after that, he went into the crowd right in front of the stage (WHY WAS I SO FAR AWAY!!!) and he emerged sans his Napoleon hat (which I wanted :((((((( ) WEARING ANTLERS. WORDS CANNOT DESCRIBE HOW CUTE THAT WAS. Almost as cute as his I love you. :DDDDDDDDDDDD
Anyway, it was a good show. I had a lot of fun. I’m glad I went. It was definitely worth the money and the 13 hour bus ride to London and back. There was lots of good merchandise. Overall, I feel like it was really well organized. It only started a little late too. The only thing that I didn’t care for were their VCR type things - they were just sort of random and made little sense to me outside of the opening one. But what are VCRs if not random?
Fin.
I know I didn’t talk about everything but if you have any questions about the show, feel free to ask.
