Temari tip-toed down the hall, past her father's room, then her brothers' and finally slipped into the room that had once been their playroom but which was now a study for her brothers.

Her eyes were immediately drawn to the window and she breathed a sigh of relief as she saw the white curtain blowing in the wind.

She padded over to the window and was in the process of lifting the curtain when she heard her father's cool, commanding voice coming from behind her, "Where exactly are you going?"

Temari's eyes widened and she turned very, very slowly to face him. Instead of her father however, she saw her younger brother leaning against the door frame and grinning wickedly.

Temari let out another sigh, "Kankurou! Did you do that?!"

He nodded, chuckling with silent mirth, "Yeah, I got you good that time."

"You idiot!" she whispered, "Don't scare me like that again!"

He shrugged, "Well, I wouldn't be able to if you weren't sneaking out again. One of these days, it's really going to be Father here and not me."

Temari sighed and gave him a pointed look, "Not if you don't say anything."

Kankurou shook his head, glanced down the dark hallway and then back to her, "Just be quieter when you go down the hallway. I was half asleep and I heard you."

She nodded and sent him a grateful smile before climbing through the window. He heard the soft thud as she landed and then silence. Kankurou walked over to the window and looked out - his sister had disappeared and the strong, cold wind had already erased whatever footsteps she'd left behind.

Sighing, he turned and left the room, pulling the door so that it looked as though it was closed. Then he started back down the hallway to his room.

"Kankurou?"

Kankurou stopped in front of his room and looked up the hallway. He could just make out Gaara's tussled head peaking out of the door of his room. "What?"

"What's going on?"

Kankurou sighed and shook his head, "It's nothing, Gaara. Go back to sleep," he added before entering his own room and closing the door.

Gaara frowned - he didn't like being kept in the dark. Determined to grill his brother tomorrow, he retreated into his own room and went back to bed.
