Another day, another TakaElisabeth: I finally found time to watch the Soragumi one.
First things first: I really, really like Shizuki Asato's voice (and some of her costumes, though costume-wise Sena's Death is still my favourite).
I found her the most aggressive Death of all those I've seen; I kept getting the feeling that any second now this Death would just shake Elisabeth for arguing with him.
At the beginning of the show Elisabeth seemed to me kind of blah, but I started liking her very much after her first argument with Sophie, the morning after the wedding. I think O-Hana was the first Elisabeth I've seen genuinely trying to convince Sophie and to bring her on her side. And after that I was sold: I think she managed to show a strong and rather mature Elisabeth. She was so impressive in the scene with hungarian rebels, too: proud, not scared.
And I must say I liked the work of whoever was filming this: there were many interesting close-ups that worked very well for me. Especially in the "Death-from-the-wardrobe" scene, which usually makes me giggle. This was, I think, its most restrained version, starting with the long close-up of Wao Youka singing behind the door, and ending with Death bowing to Elisabeth when almost out of the room. Oh, and I think this Elisabeth was the quickest to come to her senses in this scene.
I'm still quite enchanted with Kiriyan's tomcat FJ, but Wao's emperor was rather impressive in a more stolid way: I liked his encounter with Rudolf. Oh, and as for Rudolf, I liked Komu in the scene where Rudolf is singing to his mother: it's such a contrast, he looks very much alive, and she... not quite so. And more about Rudolfs, the young Rudolf here was the most boyish of Takarazuka's young Rudolfs.
Oh, and due to my computer having troubles, I watched this in the living room, inflicting 'Zuka on my parents. That was funny: father came in again during the aftershow and said "Who's that?". "The Death," I answered. "Wasn't she the one dressed as a Pope?". *g* I had to explain about the number of Death's costumes in this show.
