Now this _is_ a review.
And first of all I must say that this is not a good play. It has little plot to speak of, musumeyaku have nothing to do (except for Izumo Aya) and there are dance interludes clearly inspired by the 'Hey, two thirds of the troupe have nothing to do, let's send them out to dance!' line of thought. It only works if you are willing to watch the show to squee at how cute the tsukigumisei are.
Fortunately, I am willing to do just that.
Now, about the cute. Musumeyaku, as I said, had nothing to do, but they had dresses! I'd love to steal half of those dresses, if not for me, then copies for my dolls. There was a dance number with Shirosaki Ai and a bunch of other musumeyaku in flowery dresses, and I loved those a lot (the fact that I loved Ai-chan goes without saying, but they could've given her something to do!). Izumo Aya ran everything, as she usually does (I'd like to see her early roles - I wonder how she was then). Also, Takigawa Sueko appeared, and I liked her a lot for an episodic comedy lady (especially in her black dress).
Yes, I like pretty dresses, if it's not clear yet.
Ayano Kanami had nothing to do at all. It was like "Hey, guys, did we forget our top musumeyaku? Oh well, let her be pure and inspiring, I know! And give her Mirio as a a little brother for additional prettiness".
Also, there was a lot of "recognize that footman" in watching the hotel scenes. Magee was cute. Masao was cute. Everyone was ridiculously cute, really. It was all about the cute. ... hell, even Koshino Ryuu was cute, though she was not a footman - being all excited and emotional about Armand coming. Yoshizuki Eri looked strangely good in that moustache. Ryouga Haruhi kept stealing almost every scene she was in.
But mostly the only people with stuff to do were Asako, Yuuhi and Kiriyan. And they were good at it. Yes, Asako mostly did the same stuff she did with Magician's Misfortunes later, and partly with Ernest in Love, but I did not mind - I liked how she did it. Yuuhi entertained me by pouting - for all her angsty face, she can be really funny... and they really acted like brothers even though they weren't brothers in truth, as far as I understood.
Also, I liked them running around during the storm. And all those buckets.
Kiriyan the mad scientist was... I have to say 'cute' again, but she was! Probably the cutest thing about this show. And I think at least originally Mimi liked him, not Armand. And in the end it was sort of like cliche romances with librarian heroines - "take off his glasses and do his hair properly and look how pretty he looks".
All in all, for a rather silly show I had a lot of fun, but it's not the kind of stuff I'd recommend to people.
