Reset lyrics, my interpretation.

Hi Minna!
I just saw the lyrics of Jin’s con’ and seriously…. The lyrics of Reset… don’t they just scream « AKAME HERE!! »?! Maybe it’s just my crazy fan-girl mind (it probably is…) but I just couldn’t help images of Akame flooding in my head when I read them!
So here are my thoughts about the song and it’s relation to Akame history! :)

Reset:

Pieces of our lives we remember
Pieces of our lives we won't forget
Oh oh oh
Down cuz we gonna go and reset life now

Somehow, lately I have the feeling there is something happening again between Kame and Jin. They sit side by side on shows (which I didn’t see in a while), they seem to be kinda awkward around the other… I feel like something has changed, and it fits perfectly the idea of a new start, of a « reset ».

Pieces of our lives we remember
Pieces of our lives we won't forget
Oh oh oh
Down cuz we gonna go and reset life now

Did you ever wonder if you would forget
The sunshine

To this line, I instantly thought of the sunrise they saw together in Okinawa, when they went on a trip there!

[Since it’s Jingoish (and I‘m no native English speaker…), I had a few problems understanding the following part, so correct me if I misunderstood something!]

I know you'd always be mine I think about
It from time to time
I know we'd never have these problems
Looking at you everyday

Somehow, he seems to be certain that the person he’s talking about will always be with him, but at the same time, there is some uncertainty, as if he is trying to convince himself that he is sure he’ll always have this person by his side, without any problems. This makes me think of time they spent together in their junior days, and how close they were before, being ‘best friends’ as Kame said!

I never thought I'd ever have to hear you
Ever have to say
Words that you don't know the things
That you don't wanna know

But then, it seems like something came up and crushed his certainty. Like the LA incident for example? Those « words » Kame doesn’t know, to me it seems like Jin is referring to some specific words, if not, he would have used ‘things’ instead, or something more general. But « words » makes me think Jin is talking about three little words he maybe should have said before leaving…

Things I told you when I told you and I
Never let you know

Were those the things he told him when he told him he’d go to LA? What was it he’d never let him know? This is only my personal speculation, but did Jin tell Kame the real reason for his trip to LA? Was there maybe some hidden reason he didn’t say and he would never want him to know, probably being afraid of his reaction? Wouldn’t he be afraid to be rejected if he confessed to Kame? This enhances the idea of the « words » in the last paragraph being « I Love You » :)

You told me once or twice the things we
Had to see

Jin’s dream was to go to Okinawa with Kame, maybe Kame too had places he wanted to see with Jin…

Just to remember how things could be
Just between me and you

Again, the idea that something changed between them. They were cold towards each other after Jins hiatus. There it seems as if Jin tries to convince Kame that the way they were back then could be their future, that they could be as close as before.

You know that things could never be the
Same and now wear over and over
And singing over again
So I'm rewinding the time Tracing back
The lines it makes me
Smile just to know that you'll always be
Mine

But even though he wants him to remember, he knows things won’t be as they were, maybe because now he acknowledged his feelings and his ready to face them, unlike he was before. He seems to have gained confidence through the memories they shared, the confidence that he’ll always be his.

Let's rewind our life now Let's rewind
Our life now
Let's rewind our life now Let's rewind
Our life now

To me it seems like here Jin wants Kame to look back with him, and wants him, just as he did, to gather strength from those memories to ’reset’ and start all over again. He says « our life » so it should be someone he spend most of his life with. Akame know each other for… 11 years now? I think it’s pretty safe to say that, considering the time they spent together, they have a story of their own!

Pieces of our lives we remember
Pieces of our lives we won't forget
Oh oh oh
Down cuz we gonna go and reset life now
Pieces of our lives we remember
Pieces of our lives we won't forget
Oh oh oh
Down cuz we gonna go and reset life now

If you asked me when I first experienced
Life
I can tell you cuz that memory is still so
Nice
At the time when you put that smile on
The rhymes would come and the writing
Was strong

To me the ‘strongest’ song Jin ever wrote was Care, and it was definitely meant for Kame. :)

I knew people like this
Aren't gona be around forever like this
So we gotta spend as much time in this
Bliss
With the people that will miss
Or will never be happy and will never

Again there is a feeling of uncertainty, as if everything could suddenly disappear (him mixing tenses doesn’t help >.<) but at the same time, he know is sure that he wants to live his life to his fullest, not letting the people he cares for go.

Start to guess

Guess what it could a been
Guess what it was again
Just stop forgetting
Now we celebrating this life at its best
This life will get
Just hold onto me
While I press reset

The ‘stop forgetting’ makes it seem as if the person he is singing to tries to repress those memories, while he is, on the contrary, bringing everything up again. As if the person feared those memories and the feeling that goes with them. Jin is offering security, to Kame, offering him to ‘hold onto him’. To me it just feels like all those times when Jin would support Kame, help him out and watch over him. He offers him to celebrate those memories instead of fearing them! ;)

Let's rewind our life now Let's rewind
Our life now
Let's rewind our life now Let's rewind
Our life now

Pieces of our lives we remember
Pieces of our lives we won't forget
Oh oh oh
Down cuz we gonna go and reset life now
Pieces of our lives we remember
Pieces of our lives we won't forget
Oh oh oh
Down cuz we gonna go and reset life now

Pieces of our lives we remember
Pieces of our lives we won't forget
Oh oh oh
Down cuz we gonna go and reset life now
Pieces of our lives we remember
Pieces of our lives we won't forget
Oh oh oh
Down cuz we gonna go and reset life now

somehow it ended being way longer than I had imagined! anyway, those are only my thoughts and my personal interpretation of the song and i don't pretend it's the truth (even though i wish it was! x))! I just wanted to share so please tell me your thoughts about it! :) As I said, I'm not a native english speaker and i never lived in an english speaking country, so if I made mistakes, feel free to correct me! :D
Thanks for reading! :)
