Wow. Um. I've tried to reply to your comment since yesterday but your words left me speechless (apologies in advance for the shortness and lack of coherence).
Guh. I want to write something great now, too. It appalls me how this fandom cannot appreciate truly great works such as these, and flock aplenty instead to ones where things are rather generic.
Thank you. I never expected such strong responses to this story. After years stuck in the worst writer's block ever (literally), I had pretty much given up on writing altogether. I accepted from the very moment I started jotting notes down that no one would read it because of its bizarreness. It didn't matter too much because I had never been that inspired, and I was writing again.
Okay, the popularity issue DID bother me a lot after awhile lol. But then comments started coming in. Knowing that at least 'one' person took the time to tell me they'd enjoyed is very rewarding. It also depends on what you're looking for... I don't read that much fanfiction anymore because of the usual lack of plot and bad characterizations. I don't care what's in there - fluff/sex/whatever - but I'll read it as long as the author gives me something I can believe in. I'm glad that people feel that way about Obsolete in spite of its apparent chaos. : grins :
So... yeah. This story means a lot to me :]
[Interesting theory there... I used to be a lot into the Chronicles a few years ago.]
If I were in Ruki's place, I don't think I would have lasted that long. Hell, I wouldn't have made it through the welcome protocol lol. I've been harrassing my mates at school about it and out of a dozen people, only one would have chosen his decision. : had a point but she forgot : lol. I'd better leave it at that.
Haha, don't worry about it. ^^ It deserves all the praises heaped onto it and then some. =P Especially given the scarcity of it all.
>>;; I know what you mean about popularity issues. I write too, but as I seem to slip away from romance and yaoi in general (not that I don't love slash, because I do) my own popularity as an author in this fandom seemed to dwindle as well. Ironically enough, things I consider shitty seem to get a bigger response. ._. But personally, the works that I really enjoy, that I post in particular communities designed to weed out those particular fics, has gotten me some readers who are similiar to me in plot tastes and leave me comments that are so encouraging they are worth twenty generic "graet job" comments, even if said community is not percisely perfect.
Obsolete is obviously one such fic that people can believe in. Yes, the plot seems kinda whacko and confusing, but what I love about it is that it's so complex, and surprising yet plausible. Like a whole world and future you've carved out, because even if it's confusing, it makes a lot of sense.
If I were Ruki...hmm, I don't know. >>;; I think ti's something you have to experience, or at least think about in depth, to comprehend. At the moment, I can't quite get access to his feelings. But if I were cut off from contact of peple I can talk to like that, I don't think I could have gone on--though the presence of someone like Aoi would've helped quite a lot.
I have a bit of a question, though. The part where Mitsuo shows up and effectively kidnaps Ruki--it seems that they hadn't contacted each other in, what, a year? And yet, he had the units ready at his house, everything, knew where to find Ruki, though that seemed like a bit of blind luck to me. What I'm saying is, Mitsuo didn't seemed to know for certain whether or not he'd find Ruki, yet he's already purchased those very expensive formulas for him. In addition, Mitsuo thought that Ruki might have been dead. So you lost me there.
Ha! Are there a few of those communities that you could recommend me? I passed by your lj yesterday and considered joining the one you mentionned but the drama kind of turned me off. -_-
lol@kidnapping
Oh really? : pretends not to know what you're talking about : Hm. I wonder... ~
By the way, may I add you to my main account as well, since I'm rarely using this one?
Oh, the antirukichan community? The drama's pretty much over for now, and after we got out our initial rawring sorted out, things have been quiet. I know for sure you'd pass the requirements for not having generic plots and such, so that's pretty much the only one I know with such a criteria. =P Which is why they got attacked, of course. Somewhat silly, but yes. There isn't much drama nowadays. -pat-
