.Junnosuke Taguchi sat on the front steps of the dark apartment; flakes of white snow falling soundlessly around his unsheltered body.
He cradled in his hands a small green & black box, a lopsided bow taped to the top of it. Christmas in Japan had always been a very lonely time for him; everyone else went out with their families or lovers.. Junno stayed home watching Christmas cartoons on his television, occasionally glancing out his window at the people and their smiling faces.
I always have to pretend to be happy.. It's become like a second nature to smile..
When did I start taking happiness for granted? What about love?
Futher down the snow-covered road, a couple laughed, stopping to snap a few photos together under the multi-colored lights strung up along the walkway. Junno smiled on impulse hearing the woman laugh.
Like bells..
Suddenly, the door in front of Junno opened & Kamenashi Kazuya stepped out, fallowed by a flushed Akanishi Jin. "Now, Kame.. You have to promise me that you'll-" Jin stopped speaking abruptly when he spotted Junno on the steps, this prompted Kame to look up from his fight with his key. All three men now stood, staring at one another. Kame smiled, surprised but happy nonetheless at his unexpected guest.
"Junno! What are you doing out here in the snow? You could catch a cold."
Junno smiled nervously, avoiding Jin's curious gaze as he tried to gather his thoughts before speaking. "H-Hai.. I.. um.. I have this..I just thought you would like something for Christmas Kamenashi..So I um.." Kame grinned hugely, reaching out to take the small box from Junno's hands. "What is it?" Junno smiled again, a huge toothy grin that he hardly ever showed while in the public eye. "You have to open it. It's bad luck next year if I tell you, K-Kamen-"
Kame's grin grew wider before he spoke. "Junno.. Please. Call me Kazuya." Behind him, Jin made an impatient sound in the back of his throat. "Kazu...Come on! I want to get there before the carolers leave!" Kame rolled his eyes, looking up and catching Junno's eyes. "What are your plans tonight, Junno? Have a special someone waiting back at your home?" Junno smiled, nodding. Jin pulled at the corner of Kames' jacket, impatient still. Kame shrugged off the gesture, stepping forward to wrap his thin arms around Junno's neck in a warm hug.
"Arigatou gozaimasu, Junnosuke" he whispered. standing on the tips of his toes to reach Junno's ear. Junno, albeit entirely taking aback by the gesture, returned it. "Y-You're very welcome, Kazuya.." Kame, caught up entirely in the moment, forgot entirely that his boyfriend was standing only inches away, and bent up, pressing a soft warm kiss on Junno's cheek. "Happy Christmas, Junno." he said as he pulled away and started down the steps toward Jin's car parked on the sidewalk.
Junno felt a smile pulling at the sides of his mouth, and for the first time in what seemed like years, smiled genuinely at Kames' retreating figure.
"Happy Christmas.."
