Since there were no other Euro 2010 matches I wanted to watch on Saturday, I decided to watch France - Romania. See if I could summon a bit of patriotic cheer. I kind of did, although it was more of a 'I like this player who happens to be playing for my NT' kind of cheer.
France won again and I was happy for them. I think I'm able to like this team because there are none of the stupid fucks who stirred some shit this summer. It's visible as well in the way the players are happy to play and to win.
2 - 0. First goal scored by Remy after a pass by Alou Diarra. (He apparently was offsides but it wasn't noticed at the time :| ) & Second by Gourcuff (YEEEEES ! I'm happy for him because he needs to prove himself in the NT and also because he looked so fucking happy and the first he did was to run towards Dimitri Payet and also because his teamates looked happy for him as well and I'll stop ranting. Now score with Lyon and everything will be peachy !) after a superb assist. by Payet. Goals scored by the subs but the rest of the team had worn down the Romanian defensive curtain quite ardently.
Indeed, Romania had decided to play very defensively, which was a big problem in the defense with the team not being able to go forward and to create much. While I think Romania really played for a draw and close down as much as they could on our midfield, I wish France had been a bit braver and more forward in its attack. But it's still a young team, a team whose level is not high yet.
On individual performance for some players : (IMO)
Malouda was almost inexistent throughout the whole game :\ Managed to do one or two goods things but lost the ball too many times.
Nasri did fine IMO. He might have not scored or made a decisive past leading to a goal but I think he started playing quite well in the middle of the first half. I just wished he'd connected more with Benzema. (I'm still curious to see what a Nasri/Gourcuff association would do in the far future.)(Some stupid people were saying Nasri had been inefficient/bad. WTF. Which match were they watching ?)
Benzema, a mixed performance I think. Too many times alone at the front and not fed balls (especially from the left.), he sometimes had to play deeper to get to the ball. (which always deeply annoys me. You're the striker, dammit. You're not supposed to play that deep. Reminds me of Liverpool ;_;) He also lacks form and spent his last ten-fifteen minutes on the pitch completely out of it. He needs to play more at Real Madrid if he wants to be fit. MOU, I KNOW YOU LOVE PIPITA BUT MAKE BENZEMA START MATCHES ! è_é
Valbuena (or Speedy Gonzales as I called him.) had a good match and was without doubt the better part of France's attack, even though it never amounted to anything. Was running all over the place.
Gourcuff only played for roughly fifteen to twenty minutes but I think he played quite well in this amount of time. Apart from the goal (because you still have to put in the net, even when it looks so easy.), he played quite forward, almost as a striker. Clean and good performance.
There need to be some work on the defense, especially on the left side, Clichy can do good things but he can also do some stupid mistakes, who almost cost France. They were fucking lucking the ball hit the post and came back in Lloris' hands. VERY FUCKING LUCKY.
Overall, a nice performance. There a still a fair amount of problems to be working on but this team is coming together. I don't think Blanc needs the players that are still suspended, or even Toulalan. But it will be his own choice in the end ;)
Liverpool-related note : POULSEN (THE FUCKING POULSEN WHO PLAYS FOR US) WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SECOND PORTUGUESE GOAL IN THE EURO 2012 QUALIFIER BECAUSE HE FUCKED UP A PASS. I HOPE YOU WATCHED IT WOY. I HOPE YOU WATCHED THE MATCH VERY CLOSELY AND REALISED HE PLAYS LIKE SHITE.
