Ensemble Incident

Haven't written here for a while... ^^

I went to watch an orchestra last night with my family. Actually it's more an ensemble since there were only 11 members and few divos/divas. We went per invitation from my youngest brother, who was recruited into the group as their drummer few months ago.

This orchestra group plays mostly gospel music, and the pieces played last night were all original titles, a total of 10.

Too bad we got there a little late, since the traffic was awful due to heavy rain, so we only entered the hall between the 3rd and 4th piece. And there was a little break after the 5th piece, so we could get some fingerfood and refreshment in the meantime.

After the break, they opened with some extra tunes first. Some more known gospel songs, including Josh Groban's "You raise Me Up", followed by Schubert's "Ave Maria" on solo violin.

Before the performance, the reception committee already gave us a little questionnaire, and told us to give the completed sheets back during break for raffle. A name will be picked and the person will get an acrylic painting done by the owner of the orchestra group. Anyway, so they drew a piece of paper after, and the winner was... me!!! ^o^

Apparently, the painting is quite worthy. They even gave me the certificate of origin, so yeah, I'm the legal owner of it xD

It's a landscape painting of a waterfall, painted at the base of Mount Salak. Maybe you've heard from the news about a recent Sukhoi airplane crash in Indonesia? The waterfall is apparently not far from there. So the artist gave the piece the title "Sukhoi Waterfall". And apparently, the artist has such imagination, that if you look closely at the background of the painting, you'll see faces. People were assuming those were of Sukhoi victims... A bit creepy, if you think of it that way, to be honest... But hey, it's a piece of art nonetheless! ;)

I actually wasn't even planning on writing right answers, LOL. But well, I had nothing to lose anyway xD But mom later told my brother "that's what happens for teasing your sis" =P At the beginning, when he was giving us the invitations, he didn't want to give me mine for a reason I don't want to elaborate on. We even argued because of that, and I told him "if you don't want me to go, fine. I won't go" so he finally gave in and handed me the invitation =P

Anyway, I think the orchestra was pretty good. They aren't as 'blended' yet, and the volume control in some pieces was still off. Meaning, for example some pieces had lead clarinet and flute. But you hear the strings more instead. Especially the 1st violin, cos he used an electric violin and it was louder than he rest of the strings. But speaking of, the 1st violinist is good. Not to mention, he's really cute too! Fufufu~ ^o^

I was surprised at first when I heard my brother say he joined an orchestra. I thought I heard wrong. I know he's a drummer, but he usually does rock, alternative or jazz and blues. I think his forte is jazz. And he isn't a classical dude. Among us siblings, I'm the only one who listens to classical music, actually. So yeah, I found it odd. But my brother said he's doing this to challenge himself. Now that I agree! =D
