Not sure if Yuletide will see any new records, but _coal is already turning out more posts than in the past couple of years.
And all that, just because I didn't get that shippy fic I wanted so badly that one year!

Ie, not okay, and probably defeating the point.
/anon who is asking for fix-it in a totally fictional fandom, totally fictional, I swear.

The details of the case are pretty horrible, but suffice to say that your comparison is absolutely correct. It's because of assholes like this one that Calpernia Addams has to include the following disclaimer on her website:
Please, out of respect for my need to move forward, do not contact me about Barry’s murder or the movie, either here, via social networking sites or in person.

That is... so unfortunate, and I don't think I'm going to dig any deeper into it tonight.
RPF makes me feel kind of weird most of the time anyway (though I have seen a couple of not-at-all-creepy Yuletide requests that restored my faith in humanity) but that just seems to be taking it a little far.
I hope that fic does not get written, although I hope the requester gets another fic that makes her reasonably happy.

I had to consult the Wikipedia about the film, since I'd never heard of it, and now I really, really wish I hadn't. How horrible.

But... this requester isn't harassing Calpurnia Adams or trying to contact her or make her discuss the movie, that we know of. How is requesting fanfic of the movie on the same level as someone who tries to directly contact her about the movie?

like it's one thing to write porn about chris pine or adam lambert or whoever, but in a situation like this? no. there's a line.

I don't think it's any more disrespectful than any other fanfic based on fictionalized accounts of real people, or RPF fic.

Her life is not going to get a fix it fic. They want a happy story that makes them feel better about the stuff that she went through, because they had a few moments of downer over a sad ending? I...honestly, I'm not sure how I feel about the request, but I can very easily see how that could come off as (however unintentionally) a kind of flippancy. Things also sometimes feel a shade different when the participants are still alive.

And I can certainly understand that line. But requesting or writing fanfic that Calpurnia Adams is unlikely to ever see is really a far cry from actually contacting her and trying to discuss the movie with her, and that's what I was commenting on. AIRT said that "it's because of assholes like this" that she's had to put a disclaimer on her website about not contacting her about the movie, which I think is an unfair criticism of the requester considering she's really doing nothing of the sort (that we know of).

And I'm not familiar with the movie but the requester seems really clear that she's talking about a fictional story and even expresses some discomfort with the fact that the movie's based on a true story.
