Daily update, Yuletide 2009!

Oct 14, 2009 10:18

I'm going to restrain myself this year to a single update per day for info of note. Okay, I'm going to try to. *kof*

  • As noted in the nominations announcement and the FAQThe form will let you know if a fandom you submit has already been ruled non-obscure. Please do NOT email us asking about specific fandoms that come up as ineligible. This also goes for letting us know why you think it's not fair that your fandom was eliminated, but this other one wasn't.

Last year we had over 2500 fandoms nominated; I'm sure we'll beat that this year (Good LORD we're already over 2000). This leaves plenty of truly rare, non-franchise fandoms to choose from.
  • Don't use diacritics/accent marks in nominating fandoms and characters. These convert to garbage characters.

  • New category of interest this year: albums! After several queries about how to nominate full albums, I'm going with:
Artist - Album Title (album), ie: The Beatles - Revolver (album)

(ETA: Strike that. Reverse it. My original example was wrong!)

If there are distinct characters in a themed album (as with Tommy), you can list characters. Otherwise you can list the individual songs, similar to how individual fairytales are listed under the Fairy Tales fandom.
  • Similarly, if you have a song you want to nominate that does not have a distinctive title, nominate it as:
    Delilah - Dresden Dolls (song)

This will keep songs listed by their titles, with those needing to be further specified using the artist as the qualifier.
  • All (okay, almost all) books and plays should be listed by Author - Title. Exceptions are made for book series with three or more authors/books in series with many authors (like the Nancy Drew mysteries or Sweet Valley High books).

Remember, not all fandoms will remain eligible, and some will have their titles changed to fit the requested patterns/merge variant titles. When it comes time to sign up, check the Nominated Fandoms list or the Master List to see if this is the case. If your fandom does not appear on either list, it is probably ineligible.

If you see duplicated fandoms or other errors/issues with fandom titles or characters, or you see a nominated fandom that you feel is not rare, please comment to an Admin post or send a note to yuletide at yuletidetreasure dot org.

I had thought about doing a semi-formal division of the list by letter, asking people to check, but we seem to be doing well so far catching things -- thank you so much, those of you who are scouring the list!
