We're not sure how it happened, but it seems to be December. How is everyone doing?
Yuletide in December cliff notes
- If you have a problem or a question, contact us at yuletideadmin@gmail.com! We hope we can help you with it.
- To discuss Yuletide with other participants, there are
- Here's a guide to how and where to post treats and assignments. Every work posted to the main Yuletide 2017 collection should have one recipient who is signed up to or pinch hitting for this year's exchange. Please don't post works without recipients.
- Pinch hits are going to come more and more frequently! If you're interested in pinch hitting, please see Pinch hits at the FAQ. The pinch hits can be seen at the pinch hit google group.
- The default deadline is 9am UTC 11 December (late night 10 December for some). The defaulting section in the FAQ will tell you if this deadline is relevant to you.
- The deadline for posting your assignment is 9am UTC on 18 December (late night 17 December for some).
A bug affecting revealed/unrevealed status
We set the Yuletide 2017 and Yuletide Madness 2017 collections to 'moderated', meaning works are added to a queue to be approved, because of a bug that can affect newly posted works.
When a work affected by the bug is posted, it bypasses collection settings such as 'unrevealed' and 'anonymous' and acts as if it had been posted outside the collection - it is accessible to readers and shows the author's name. The way you post the work has no effect on whether it will be caught by this bug.
We are monitoring the collections and can quickly 'fix' a work to which this occurs. (Or, if this happens to you, you can delete and re-post your work, if you wish.) Unfortunately, however, gift notifications and subscription notifications will go out. If you get a notification of a Yuletide gift before December 25, please delete it to avoid spoiling the surprise.
We are in touch with AO3 staff about this bug and they are working on it. Unfortunately, it is a complex bug and they are unable to promise a speedy fix.
Collection membership
At the top of the Yuletide parent collection, under the title, you may notice a button that says 'Join' or 'Leave'. If a person presses 'Join', they are added to a list of potential members, and the moderator of a collection can then make them a member. Members of a collection can post to that collection and, even if it is set to moderated, their works will be automatically approved.
At the moment, this is causing problems, as there are about 200 members of the Yuletide collection. It is possible that one of you may post a work, the bug will strike, and it will show up in the collection in a highly visible way. We therefore propose to demote all current members to pre-membership status. We will do that in the next few days if there are no objections (possibly, longterm participants remember something about the reason for membership that we do not!).
