Ugh, I'm sorry if this is clear from previous posts, but it's causing me great anguish because I'm not 100% sure. Is the following correct?

If we have imported our Yuletide works from the original Yuletide site (I checked the redirect tool for all my past works, and it correctly identified their current AO3 home), and we want the comments from the old site imported, we do not need to contact Open Doors in any way, and the old comments will be imported.

Many, many thanks.

You are correct. (and asking questions is good :))

Thanks for so clearly asking and answering this! It was on my mind too, and even though I thought it was the case, I was still paranoid and convinced I'd misunderstood. I will try to relax! :D

I'm glad it makes sense now :)

Does "heard back" mean something beyond just getting your own form submission back as confirmation?

...somehow I suspect it does, oh joy. *goes to do it all over again, then*

Yes, you should have heard more than that. You don't necessarily need to do it all again (the autoreply should have all the details, so hopefully that will save you work).

I've passed your information on to OD, and you should hear back from them soon.

...well crud, I didn't realize it was closing in UTC. :-/ I guess I'm out of luck, then?

If you've sent stuff through late, it might be okay. I don't know how strict about the time OD are being.

Honestly, I'm pretty confused just about the story merging/redirect, given that I didn't use AO3's import tool. Oh well, I guess I'll see how it all shakes out...

So .... question. What will happen to stories on YTT that don't have authors on Ao3?

I ask this because one of the most gut-wrenching stories I ever read in the old archive is Whitemail by Sandy Herrold, an author who has since passed away.

It breaks my heart to think that this story (as well as the other two she did for YT) might be lost after the migration. I'm hoping that they'd at least be imported as orphans, but if it's a matter of setting up an account to receive it I would be more than happy to donate a code.

The stories will be imported (there is a yuletide_archivist account, which is set up with special powers for this purpose). The stories will show up with the author name attached, but will be linked to the yuletide_archivist account. This is what happens with all the stories until they are claimed. In the more general case, the claim email will allow the author to create an ao3 account if they do not already have one.

No stories will be lost unless the author decides to delete them.
Hope this answers your question.

Yes, I'm much relieved to hear that.

Even though Sandy has passed away, it's good to know that her works will continue.
