I ditto this, wholeheartedly. Wrangling the pinch-hits and the assurance that everybody will end up with a story is a huge task, but without it, this challenge wouldn't be nearly so happy-making.

This. I participated in a fic exchange last holiday season that consisted of perhaps 20-30 people. Six authors didn't fulfill their assignments, leaving six of us (myself included) with nothing. The mod never did a thing about it. Oddly enough, that exchange did not run this year.

Which is to say, Elyn r0xx0rs big time for being a way better mod on an exchange with ~2k participants than this other person was on a comparatively microscopic exchange.
