Yuletide 2009

This year Yuletide reminded me of an event almost ten years ago, when we had to move house just before the holidays. Workmen were still doing necessary stuff as we moved around them setting up the necessities like kitchen and main room because oh noes, the entire extended family was coming over, ready or not.

So the party happened, even though the hall light only turned on from upstairs, and the microwave would knock the entire downstairs power out, and the guest towels had vanished so we had to put out our old ones. But in spite of these little glitches, everyone had a fantastic time, especially as they were able to move about in so much more commodious space. They poked about discovering nifty things, and they had a great time, as the work people quietly finished up some last minute disasters.

To think that this massive archival move happened just before the huge (and each year exponentially bigger) Yuletide bash is amazing. And it worked! Yep, some glitches, but oh, the stories were just so good, and the new features fun to test out and search on, and in short, it was yet another terrific experience.

I hope the mods have had a chance to rest--they have done phenomenal work, and they were well supported by the generosity and fun spirit of the Hippos and others over on the IRC. I couldn't believe that I would be able to find a beta for a 10k story two days before Yuletide, and for a small fandom, but I did!

Thank you, good people, for a nifty year.

yuletide 2009, thankyous
