American Gods:
The Journey West - I've seen this recced a million times, but it is worth every single mention. Short, amazingly poignant, hits you in the face like a sledgehammer even if you can't remember what any of the book was about.
Oceans 11:
Boy Wonder - Linus doesn't tend to do this for me, but this more than did it for me, it tied me up and left me grinning. Amazing wit, style and narration. You can hear Danny and Rusty, practically.
The Silmarillion:
Not marble, nor the gilded monuments - Written for me! I am not biased at all, no! Glorfindel through the ages, and in just enough words that you can feel the Ages pass, subtly and without having to have memorised the canon. Ecthelion also, though somewhat in reverse. Beautiful, beautiful fic. ♥
