First: you continue to be awesome; you and astolat and the original tzikeh and whoever-all else is working on Yuletide now, y'all ROCK the MOST. Thank you over and over and over for everything you do. [I was going to go on and say something about how nothing I'm about to say should be read as criticism, and then express some v. mild concern about the signup deadline -- and therefore the assignment distribution -- creeping later annually. But then I did the research and found the following:
  • in 2004, the signup deadline was November 8; we had assignments on November 9. Hot damn!
  • in 2005, the signup deadline was November 7; we had assignments on November 14, which, at the time, I don't know about anybody else, but I really felt the five-day difference in the writing period (on account of December 21 never moves [g]).
  • so this year, the signup deadline is November 8, and I was all set to have something about, as I say, date creep, but there's no real need; only with the understanding that this is not anybody's day job and therefore just because the necessary scripts and whatnot can evidently be run in 24 hours doesn't mean this is the best plan ever, if there's a sense that dates might creep a bit, may I volunteer to help look at ways to roll them back a bit in future?
(No kidding, I really felt it, having a week less last year than the year before. (In the original Yuletide 2003 I didn't play.))]

A lot of that made sense in my head. Not sure it makes sense out here. Sorry. [kicks floor with toe]

Er. That is, I was going to say blah blah mild concern, and then I did the research and found blah blah blah, so my concern is even milder than it was going to be before, but still felt the five-day-less pinch, would like to pre-emptively or proactively (or a word like that) stop any potential incipient date creep, because it's not that it is a problem, and not even that I foresee a problem, but I can imagine a time when it could be a problem, and would like to prevent such a thing rather than solve it when it comes around.

Including all the bits makes it make more sense, I think. [knocks self in jaw]

Just posting this here, in case anyone else reads and has concern: Assignments will go out by November 7th, the deadline is December 19th, so you'll have six weeks to finish your story!

Last year's pinch was unfortunate, but unavoidable. I shall endeavor to not let it happen again!
