How dead is dead? One fandom I'd dearly love (Labyrinth) has a couple of archives but nothing new I can find since about 2004. Does it have to be a decade dead to be dead?
Also, there's recently been published a comic continuing the story years later with the baby from the movie as the main character, could that be considered a separate (and yes, extremely obscure) fandom?
Well, that's good to know, though I doubt it's fic I read -- as far as I can tell it's a 99.99% Jareth/Sarah fandom, which I have absolutely no interest in.
Hmm, yes, good point. The stories I'm thinking of are far from shmoopy--they managed Jareth/Sarah in a way I could actually believe and deal with--but they are mostly that pairing. Sorry. ^^;
The comic could be considered separate, yes. As for "how dead is dead," I'm resisting giving concrete guidelines, because as soon as I do, people will turn it into an absolute rule, and we're trying to avoid that. I know that adds confusion, but my sense is that most people generally know if their fandom can honestly be considered "obscure." And as long as most of your choices are clearly obscure, risking one on something you really want but aren't sure about may be worth it.
Thanks! I think discovering the active ff.net writers pretty much nailed the movie coffin (wah), but I will definitely put in the comic, since it's brand spanking new and has different characters. ;D

But my question about the comic, Return to the Labyrinth, still stands!

Yes, I know, hard to believe. My baby fandom had to go and get it all backward. ;)
