Call me Post-and-Retract! Big Changes for Yuletide!

Oct 09, 2006 16:14

I tell myself posts like this are good for my humility. Right? *g* Think of me as impulsive! We're in the midst of trying to get Yuletide more consistent and automated, so this probably isn't my last misstep.

Primary note: The limitation on new TV shows is off the table, and all shows are again eligible. I was being a bit selfish (not to mention ( Read more... )

I'm hoping so, yes. We're hoping to have an actual suggestion form, instead of taking LJ comments, and if so, it should be possible for it to generate a web page listing, much as the sign-up generates a list of what's been requested.

And yes, when it comes time sharp eyes to look over that list would be fab!

So if you say to limit it to fandoms people are thinking of requesting, that means that only the actual participants can suggest fandoms for the eligible list this year?

I'm not going to police it that closely, so technically, no. But most of our suggestions have come from participants over the year, in any case. And suggestions from non-participants should fill the list out a bit.

I must say I'm totally against this new rule - I always found it enlightening to have the whole list of fandoms in front of me, especially since from there I often found fandoms and books/series/films I'd totally forgotten about.

Should I be suggesting them here? Well, Mina de Malfois, for one - it has fairly big following, and it's worth it. Second, Joan of Arcadia. Third, Melvin Burgess's Bloodtide and Bloodsong book series. Fourth, Good Omens. Fifth, Blood and Chocolate. Sixth - I'll get back to you about this.

Is Good Omens even rare anymore? That's be the first thing I'd boot off the list. It seems like the last two years have been nothing but Good Omens.

I agree...and I say this as somebody who loves Good Omens and who both wrote and received Good Omens in different years. It's not as if G.O. is a huge fandom, but it's not rare anymore (and to be honest, it wasn't rare last year either)

Good Omens got declared non-obscure last year, as I recall -- I think it really was rare the first year it appeared on the list, but it's been a rapidly growing fandom since then. (Which is really the best-case scenario for Yuletide fandoms, I should think. Like getting off the Endangered Species List.)

For Yuletide 2006 and onwards, we're going to start over from scratch each year with compiling fandoms, and limit suggestions to fandoms you're actually are thinking about requesting, no more than 6 fandoms per person.

Sounds like it will simplify matters and make the whole process less onerous for those of y'all who do the work of making the whole thing happen. To which I say, huzzah! :-)

Also, YAY yuletide -- I am all excited now.

I did it just for you. Wouldn't want you to get bored! *kof*

Actually, sorry about that. *g* I woke up thinking "OMGWTFYULETIDE" this morning, and... jumped. In theory, I still like the limit, but I wasn't really approaching it as a participant, and Yuletide is all about the WHEE! and the FUN! so. *g*
