Comments: After the original Avengers went off the air, an effort was made to bring John Steed back to the small screen in 1976 and 1977. This time he had two companions, Purdey, played by the beautiful Joanna Lumley, and Mike Gambit, played by Gareth Hunt. The show was a little more serious than its predecessor, but that didn't stop it from having evil masterminds, killer robots, and Rodents of Unusual Size running around the sewers of London. For witty repartee, seventies fashion, spies, and adventures (despite a couple of unfortunate cases of CharlieChanChinese) this is definitely the place to go.

Comments: Hidden pirate treasure! Spunky orphans! Chases! Unrealistic fight scenes! David Niven in disguise! Leo McKern chewing happily on the scenery! What more could you ask? Well, you might ask for a young Jodie Foster and an elderly (but spry) Helen Hayes facing off as a young foster child recruited by a con artist to pose as the longlost granddaughter of an English Lady who is just barely managing to retain her hold on the manor house where she lives with three young orphans from the nearby home and her not-quite as elderly (but devoted) butler. There's a treasure to be found, but it's the cons who have the clues, and time is running out.

Comments: What do you do when you find out that your imaginary friend is real? And not only real, but in real trouble? I picked up this movie at the library because of Sean Bean, but I found myself caught up on the story of twin boys who were separated as infants. The boys have a empathic link, even before they meet, and it's a good thing, as there are child snatchers about. Bean plays a widower, the adoptive father of Thomas, who is still reeling from the death of his wife. The late Inday Ba plays the new neighbor who is more than just the romantic lead, and both Tom and Thomas are played by Aaron Johnson. The reviews at the IMDb are full of people who were surprised by how much they liked this movie. I was surprised too!
