Comments: Hilarious and fun but also moving. It's about the director of a Shakespearean festival who has to deal with wacky hijinks, the ghost of his mentor, and his ex-girlfriend who's an actor he's directing. It's witty and clever but accessible, plus appearances from Kids in the Hall's Mark McKinney, Colm Feore, Rachel McAdams, the actor who plays Myka from Warehouse 13, and loads of real and awesome Shakespearean actors.

Fandom: Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk
Category: Books
Comments: This book was critically acclaimed but also incredibly entertaining. I read it in a couple of settings, and I don't usually do that, lol, but it's very fast-paced and fun even in dealing with serious themes. It's about a US soldier whose unit achieved national fame for their acts in the Iraq War, and the book is a satire about the media, government, Hollywood, and a civilian population that to some extent loves war but doesn't know anything about it. The soldiers are on a press tour for a few days and aren't allowed to tell people that soon they'll have to go back to Iraq; the main character is about 19 and a virgin and wonders if he can get laid in these few days -- there's political humor but only in service of character.. For people who like slash or even just interesting male friendships, there are lots of possiblities, including the relationship between the main character and his seargent, an anti-war liberal intellectual type who also happens to be great in combat. People who like hurt/comfort might also like it.

Comments: What's not to love about badass women in history? I listed Fu Hao, George Sand, Edmonia Lewis and Theano (and I think someone else nommed Theodora!!). But personally, I'll probably request that any fic for me in this category should feel free to use any badass women in history regardless of whether they are on my list or not.
