Notes on defaulting and... notes! Also, posting in chapters

  • When you default by clicking the "default" button on the "My Assignments" page in your AO3 account (archiveofourown.org/users/[AO3 pseud]/assignments), it automatically notifies the mods, and your assignment will disappear from that page.

However, if you then click on the "Your Assignment" link on the Yuletide 2010 collection sidebar (archiveofourown.org/collections/yuletide2010/assignments/####), you will still see your previous assignment! This does not mean you didn't really default; as long as you clicked on the default button, and it asked you if you really wanted to default, you should be fine. Clicking default again will just send us more and more copies of your default. *g* (also note, you can't count on your assignment going out on the pinch hit list as confirmation that your default went through, so don't worry if you don't see it go out). If you're really worried, drop me a note at the yuletide address, and I can confirm.

  • Whereas on the old site Author's Notes remained hidden along with the authors' names until January 1st, on the AO3 this is not the case. You may want to leave off any self-incriminating/identifying information until after the reveal!

  • If you're posting in chapters, be sure to check the "# chapters/total chapters" count after you post. If it isn't accurate (shows 5/6, when you were sure you posted all 6 chapters), do a search for "chapter" and make sure all chapters are displaying. It's possible for a chapter to remain as a draft/unposted while all the rest post. The AO3 team is looking into a way to make it more obvious that something hasn't been posted, but until then, doublecheck!
