pirates of the carribean - at world's end

May 25, 2007 12:11

I saw it on May 24, 17:30 local time. yay me! :D

Official start in theatres (in Germany) was yesterday and of course i went with Angel (+ friend) and Julchen to see it.
We all met in front of the cinema after school/university, bought the tickets and ate Haagen Dazs icecream while waiting. (I chose my favourite flavour: Strawberry and Cheesecake, with a milkchocolaty sauce on top! yummy!)
the sun was shining, the birds were singing - wait, no, in fact the birds were so exhausted from the heat they didn't sing, but who cares?
So, we went inside and bought some sweet popcorn and coca cola light, settled into our seats and waited for the movie to start. After a lot of stupid advertisement, it did.
It's always good to start the movie of with a song, though this one was really really sad somehow (with the hanging of all the pirates and all) and then we're suddenly in Singapore, following Barbossa, Elizabeth and The Crew...
at this point i was wondering if my brain was all befuddled or did they truly NOT explain why Barbossa was back from the dead? And were did William go to? the latter question was answered shortly thereafter, the former was left out in the open for some time.
The action and fights were spectacular. the imagery - beautiful. Orlando: handsomely pretty. World's end? I had to laugh so hard when i saw all these Jack Sparrows! and the white stone crabs! sooooo cute! anyway, i think they've really done a good job in coming up with something creative for world's end. yeah.
now, as i was watching this and there was the first mention of "Calypso" i really thought William would be her reincarnation, which of course is ridiculous if think about it... then the movie kinda stopped in the middle of some fight or another for a 10min break and we all were like "what the fuck???" but then we could talk about our theories on Calypso and Davy Jones and stuff, which was interesting (i shared my William=Calypso theory and got a lot of laughs for that).
Jack Sparrows father, the guardian of the code was fun. even though i totally didn't get it that it was his father. I was so into fantasy-weirdo-thinking that my first reaction to the guardian was: this is Jack Sparrow from the future timetravelling or something. Angel corrected me afterwards, said that she had read something about casting Sparrow's father...
Oh, well. you see, this movie had a LOT of plot compressed into 3 (?) hours, following every twist and turn was not easy. there was another moment my friends and i talked about later on where character A asks: "What is he (Jack) waiting for?" and character B says something to the extened of: "He is waiting for me to fulfill our arrangement.": we sat there, nodded and thought: yeah, that makes sense... which arrangement? *blank stare*
We agreed that we would see this movie again (this time in original version, because let's face it: synchronized versions suck), if only to see Orlando as Captain Turner again. Being immortal must be really cool, if you can be sucked into the ocean with crew and ship (looking half-dead, dirty and uncombed), resurface a minute later with an out-of-nowhere bandana on, mystically cleaned and combed hair, totally drop-dead sexy scars on your breast which are shown due to an incidentally open-hanging shirt and call yourself captain of the most frightening-looking ship of a whole movie-trilogy!
The end rounded up nicely, leaving Jack in exactly (well, not exactly, but similar enough) situation as he was in at the beginning of the The Curse of the Black Pearl. And there was romance! And comedy! I love this movie.
