Chapter 17: Saying goodbye

The earth fairy patted Patey’s thigh and smiled, “How about we cook you something before we go back to the castle? We can have a little celebration for your 16th birthday”
Suzy nodded, “Dify and I can make you your favorite berry cake while Ivy mixes us some fruit drinks and Yuki cooks all of your favorite meals.”
“Yuki cooks?”
Ivy nodded and grinned at their kingdom’s prince, “She does… your majesty. Quite well if I should say so…”
Patey wiped the tears from her eyes and her sniffs are now minimal, “Yui makes the best burgers, egg rolls, pizza, salad and anything with chicken.”
The Axiem prince looked at his fiancé with a raised eyebrow earning a shy smile from the latter, “uh… I’ll cook for you then Patey… Ivy can you do the salad for me instead? So we can finish early…we need to get to the castle before it gets dark.”
The water fairy nodded and tugged on Patey’s arm, “come on… help me with the fruits… we’ll do the fruit punch and the salad just like when you were younger.”
The earth fairy stood up and grinned at the wind fairy, “come on… I saved the groceries we purchased earlier… I knew we would need it.”
Suzy gaped at Dify, “you saved our groceries? When?”
Dify grinned, “I hid it somewhere… I had the instinct that we would need it so I did. Aren’t you glad?”
“I am… just surprised…”
Patey looked at her guardians and finally smiled a little, “Diane… Sue, can I help you with the cake too?”
Suzy chuckled and nodded, “You can’t get used to our real names yet, Patey? Its okay… after you are done helping Ivy, you can help me and Dify. We’ll let you decorate the cake.”
“Patey, aren’t you going to help me cook?”
Patey smiled slightly and shook her head, “No… Prince Changmin can help you instead of me… besides, all I do is talk to you while you chop and cook”
Yuki pouted, “You used to want to watch me cook all the time when you were younger… ah, time flies so fast…”
Ivy smiled at the pouting fairy, “Yuki… you sound… old…”

The fairies watched as Ivy ushered their godchild out to the dining area to sort the fruits. Yuki sighed, “I can’t help it… I just can’t believe the little baby we raised is a grown up lady now…”
Suzy smiled sadly… “Humans age faster than fairies. We knew Patey would be growing fast… I’m just glad we were able to raise her to be a proper lady.”

Dify stood up and stretched, “I’ll get the groceries…Yuki, you can get a headstart on the kitchen…”
Suzy stood as well and smiled, “I’ll prepare the utensils that we’ll need.” The wind fairy looked at the ice fairy, “think you can finish in an hour?”
Yuki nodded, “I think so… as long as everything is here and there’s no distraction…”
Suzy secretly looked at the fairy prince and grinned… the wind fairy patted Yuki’s back, “let’s do this… our goodbye to the human life celebration and Patey’s 16th birthday…”
The hour passed by quickly and the fairies (plus Patey) were able to whip up a small feast for the Lacroix princess’ birthday. They were all sitting on the round table, Patey beside Ivy then Prince Changmin, Yuki, Dify, Suzy and Shie.
Dify smiled and lit up the candles on her berry cake, “Make a wish little one… “
Patey smiled and closed her eyes, saying her wish on her mind… Ivy grinned and whispered to Yuki behind the prince’s back, “I bet she’s wishing to see that person she was talking about earlier…”
Patey reddened terribly and Suzy chuckled, “You two, don’t tease our godchild… its her birthday.”
“Mianhe…”
Dify glanced at Ivy and Yuki’s faces and sighed… “you both don’t look the least bit apologetic… blow your candles so we can eat, Patey.”
The Lacroix princess smiled at Dify and proceeded to blowing the candles and the rest clapped their hands. Dify took one big slice of the cake and placed it in front of Patey who was smiling. Suzy gave Shie his share on his bowl and he meowed contentedly… Ivy took some of the berry cake and took one big bite while Yuki was putting some of the food she cooked into her fiancé’s plate.
“Wah! Suzy, Dify this had to be the best one you have ever made!”
The wind and earth fairies grinned at the water fairy. Patey also took a big bite and she grinned, “wah! Irish… I mean Ivy is right! You both make the best cake ever!”
Suzy ruffled Patey’s hair and smiled gently, “when you live in Wooneuk… you can taste far more delicious tasting cakes and other pastries…”
Patey’s smile disappeared and she placed her fork down… “No… even if they give dozens of cakes and pastries… to me, no one can make a much tastier cake or salad or meals than the four of you…”
Suzy looked at Dify and smiled sadly at their godchild, “thank you dear…”
Yuki felt the tears on the verge of coming out from her eyes so she shook her head a little and forced a smile, “hey… why do you sound like we won’t see each other anymore? The four of us are your guardian, Princess Patience. It’s a lifetime contract and there’s no way any of us could get out of.”
Ivy nodded and reached over to caress Patey’s cheek, “we are all stuck together whether you like it or not…”
Prince Changmin looked at the appetizing food cooked by his fiance and then looked at Yuki… he wanted to eat so badly but the atmosphere was solemn and he doesn’t want to ruin anything. So he did what he can do, snuggled to the side of his fiance and gave small kisses close to her ear.
Yuki blushed and attempted to move away a little but Changmin snaked an arm around her waist so she can‘t move, “uh… uhm… guys, can we start eating?”
Immediately the fairy prince stopped his ministrations and picked up his spoon and fork then started eating happily. The other four occupants of the table looked weirdly at the ice fairy who let out a relieved sigh. Yuki just gave a shy smile at everyone who shrugged and started eating…
A few minutes later and with no other incidents, they finished eating… Dify, Suzy and Yuki cleared the plates away and Patey with the help of Ivy started to pack her clothes and other belongings. Prince Changmin walked outside of the house to contact their parents and observe the surroundings… a small fireball appeared in front of the fairy prince and he stopped to look at it more closely. The fireball eventually showed a face of a beautiful fairy and the prince smiled…
“Noona…”
“Prince Changmin, I found something about the dark king in one of your grandfather’s old scrolls. I will show it to you as soon as you return to the kingdom.”
“Thank you Boa-noona. Is there any word from Uncle HyunJoong in the human lands?”
Boa nodded, her mouth set to a straight line… “yes, I received a message from Sairel that their king is currently doing some clean up in the human country Hanalda. Apparently, the dark side are converting more guardians into Qiennes… “
The Axiem prince nodded, face serious and the Axiem’s royal adviser took that as a sign for her to continue her report. “the last surveillance we received informed that dark fairies had been popping up in the various fairy kingdoms but haven’t done any serious damage yet. The last sighting was in Lyrcos, the dark fairies attempted to steal a scroll from the castle but Prince Hye Sung was able to drive them away. The captured dark fairies were sent to King MyungSoo for interrogation. Lord Seunghyun will provide the report as soon as they are done.”
Prince Changmin cringed at the mention of the Minnos’ duke but said nothing about it. He thanked Lady Boa and she bowed politely before disappearing. The Axiem Prince conjured another fireball but this time the face of his father showed up, “appa…”
“Yes son… I’m here. What is it?”
“I received information from Boa noona… I may need to return back to Axiem sooner than we expected.”
Prince Changmin was surprised when his mother’s face appeared on the fireball… Queen Jaejoong was waving animatedly at his confused son, “annyeong Minnie… where’s Yuki? Are you having fun there? What time are you coming over?”
The Axiem prince scratched his head, “umma where’s appa? I was reporting something important…”
The Axiem queen ignored his son’s irritated face and grinned, “he is here beside me… leave those boring talks when you are in here. It’s hard to talk about special stuff when you are using elemental communication. So… what time are you coming in again?”
Prince Changmin sighed and smiled at his mother, Queen Jaejoong is known for being intelligent and quick witted. He was not just another pretty face; he was every inch an equal to the handsome and respected king of the fairy kingdom Axiem. “We’ll be there in a few minutes… we shall use teleportation to safely bring the human princess to Wooneuk”
Queen Jaejoong smiled at his son, “Okay then… be careful.”

The fireball extinguished and Prince Changmin walked back into the house with a smile. Ivy and Patey had already arranged her bags in the living room just as the three other fairies finished with the cleaning.
“Yuki, we all need to go now. I felt the energy of the dark king somewhere close and it will be bad if we stayed here.”
The fairy princess looked at the other fairies for approval, when each of them gave her a nod as a signal; she then looked at Patey… “Patey, are you ready to go?”
“I... I don’t think I’ll ever be ready but… let’s get this over with.”
Dify smiled and patted Patey’s shoulder, “that’s my godchild…”
Prince Changmin carried two of the bags despite the protests of the other fairies… “I’m the only man here so I should be carrying the heavy stuff…”
Yuki smiled proudly and gave the fairy prince a quick backhug before grinning at the others, “since Minmin is holding Patey’s stuff… that means I’m in charge of teleportation.”
The others nodded and they all walked out of the house. Patey was holding Shie and Shie’s sleeping basket, Dify was holding the basket of fruits and some left over food from their earlier feast, Ivy held Patey’s baby clothes and Suzy holds some of the other fairies important human stuff.
Yuki grinned at her companions and immediately changed into her fairy attire with a flick of her finger, the rest of the fairies following suit. Patey looked at them in awe, “wow… you guys look amazing! Why did you settle for the boring look if you can look this awesome?”
Ivy chuckled, “so humans can recognize the difference between fairies and ordinary humans… just kidding.”
Suzy shook her head and nudged the fairy princess as she passed…”Yuki, let’s go.”
“Everyone get behind me. We don’t want to leave anyone.”
Prince Changmin stood directly behind Yuki, Ivy getting behind the prince and Patey in the middle of Dify and Suzy. Yuki made sure that everyone was set before she raised a palm and made icy water swirl around everybody. Patey looked sadly at the house where she was raised, “what would happen to our house?”
“It will just be there. A house other people can sleep on in cases when they get lost in the forest or if the need to stay here. Cheer up Patey, we can visit the house anytime we wish to anyway…”
The human princess nodded and the group disappeared in a blink of an eye.
