Here is my opinion about the whole Remus/Fenrir business:
I always imagined that Remus was Fenrir's first one. And that maybe, after seeing how Remus's parents ever since treated him, and how scared they were actually about the whole Lycanthropy, Fenrir started to form a hate towards humans. That Remus would turn out completely different to Fenrir was clear, after all, Remus got to go to Hogwarts and had friends, and tried to ignore his curse as much as possible, instead of accepting it, or embracing it like Fenrir would say.
When Remus returned to spy on Fenrir, Fenrir had hoped quietly that Remus would come back to his senses and finally see the Lycanthropy like a blessing. That he would finally follow the path that was destined for him. That's why Remus was also that thin when he came back from Fenrir. Fenrir wouldn't allow him any normal food until he would finally accept who he is. I also see that Fenrir would never kill Remus, no matter to where it came to. He was his first, and no matter how wrong Remus turned out to be in Fenrir's eyes, he would always keep the small hope that his cub might return one day.
That's an interesting theory. My friend "G" too had somewhat similar idea about him, that he was originally an okay guy, and even became friends with little Remus. Then Fenrir infects Remus, either by his consent, or by accident, or by something that made Fenrir mad enough to do that. (I'm nudging her to go further on that idea and write a comic about that.)
