Oh yeah

I forgot about the saga of The Dress.

The day started with my mom and I going out to the bookstore together for fun, because, later she told me this, she wanted me to have some fun and get some fresh air. I got four books, two of which were on sale and one that was free, and a new agenda for 2012. So you can imagine that I was already a little tired when this adventure started.

So about an hour after that, Terry and I went wedding-shopping this weekend, because Terry is a best man (groomsman?) and needs to wear a specific colour-scheme, and I need a new dress because my dresses suck.

So then we went to Additionelle, and I found a dress I sort of liked, but apparently was a style better suited for someone older. The problem was less that and more the fact that it was two big for me. Why is this a big deal? Well, I knew I had lost weight since last year, but what I didn't realise that it's not just a few pounds - it's two whole dress-sizes, and even then a 14 was still too big on me! What the fuck? I know that Additionelle's sizings are generous, and a 14 is probably more like a 16 in other store's terms, but seriously! What the fuck, man?!

Anyway, so then we went to Mark's Work Wearhouse, which is usually fantastic for both dress-shirts and dresses. But both of us struck out: apparently dark green is not in style for men this year and dresses are limited only to summer-styles. I did score and get a men's plaid sweater-jacket, so that's cool.

I eyeballed Winners to see if I could at least find a shirt for Terry, knowing that they wouldn't have anything I'd like that would fit, and again there was nothing. Seriously, world, why won't you let men wear green?

So then we went to Wal-Mart to look some more, and I found a shirt I would have liked before I realised it was also probably not age-appropriate (what is with me and dressing older than I am?). Terry told me that he struck out, too, but HE LIED - I found him a lovely forest green shirt and helped him find a tie to match. In the end, however, there were no dresses for me (though I did find an awesome wolf T-shirt - or rather, Terry did. [I realise I dress like a stereotypical lesbian, but I don't give a fuck]).

Terry was very wonderful about the whole thing, though. He decided he wouldn't let me give up. We went to another Additionelle location to see if we can find another dress, and we did. It was perfect - one of those pseudo-Greek things with loose folds and off-the-shoulder sleeves with rhinestones on the straps and stuff (it's hard to describe, I'd have to show a picture). But it was too fucking big. They only had a size 16. I found two other dresses that would have been fine (I fit into an X like it was made for me, which for normal women is like fitting into a 0), but it wasn't the dress I wanted (this stupid dress was also outside of my budget but I don't care). So a clerk called around, and a store in Brampton had a size 14. So we put it on hold and shot down there.

Cue me feeling guilty about this whole mess, but Terry was very good-natured about it. So I tried on the dress (with a strapless bra - I have one at home) and while it was still a little loose, it fit much better than the 16. So I bought it and that was that. I plan to use it for both Anthony and Jen's wedding, as well as my cousin Jessica and her fiance Brians's. So I hope to get my money's worth (though I'm a teeny bit afraid that it'll be too big for me come next summer, but let's hope not). So after five stores and a ton of driving around, I got my damned dress.

I had no idea it was going to be so much trouble. I didn't think that the weight loss would affect everything so much, but it did. 30 lbs doesn't sound like a lot, but it's two dress sizes, which can definitely fuck up your dress plans, especially when you're a woman like me who is used to things being too small. Wow.

And Terry, being amazing, took me to a lovely place called Zen Gardens, a vegetarian Chinese restaurant near his work, and introduced me to barbecue tofu pillow-buns. I had four (I want four now). That place is awesome, and it was a lovely way to end a tiring day.
