It's another rainy day. And that's alright. I'm starting to think that weather can be taken any way you wish.
So here's a rough draft of what I'm working on for a essay type thing that could win me a trip to a trails conference in Missoula, Montana.
Here are the questions they asked me to respond to:
1. What is your interest in the National Trails System, and describe your previous
experience with a Trail in your community. Or, tell us how you would like to
become involved in a trail in your community and why.
2. The conference is specifically seeking young leaders who are interested
in pioneering approaches to encourage youth to become involved with
the National Scenic and Historic Trails System. Describe your leadership
experience in any area and how it could apply to this effort.
3. What is it that draws you to the Trails? What would you like to convey to others
about the National Trails System?
I plan to make a photo essay on iMovie like we used to in McKinnon's photo class.
I want to have some voice over parts where I say my answers.
What draws me to the trails is this sense of carved history. Each step you take onto a trail is creating a groove in the surface of the earth where future people can share an internal experience of discovery, just as you are sharing the same experience with those who have traveled this trail before you. The sights might be different, but the feeling is the same. Wonder. The wonder of nature being soaked in. Trails have this unique benefit. If all people took separate paths there wouldn't be a connecting thread attaching past and future visitors to the beautiful places trails let us explore. Even above that trails preserve the beauty of the landscape that they run through. At each trail head; a trial. At each end; a triumph. This is worn into each trail and it is felt by all those who travel it.
