Warnings: Shounen ai
That I wrote this three years ago should be a warning in itself.
Summary: A little bantering here and there is just misplaced passion.
Edward rushed around the house, desperately trying to find his wallet.
"Damn, where the hell is it?" Edward yelled to no one; sifting through the drawers of his nightstand.
Behind him, Alphonse chuckled; clearly amused at Edward's frantic search. "I'm off now, Brother, I'll be back later. See you tomorrow."
Edward gave up on searching the drawers, and crouched on the floor; looking in the pockets of his discarded clothes. Edward muttered distractedly, "Yeah, yeah, have fun. Say hi to Winry for me."
Alphonse shook his head with a small smile, and left his brother's room.
Edward threw the jacket in his hands at the wall in exasperation. He snuck a glace at his digital clock, and flinched. He had exactly two minutes before Envy got here. Two minutes to find his wallet. He was doomed.
Edward sat back on his heels, and thought for a moment; trying to figure out the last place he had seen his wallet. He had it with him when he had lunch, he had it with him when he went on the computer, and he didn't have it with him when he went to the toi- the computer!
Edward jumped up and ran to his desk, grinning triumphantly when he spotted his wallet next to the keyboard.
"Finally!" Edward sighed. "I don't have to pay full price!"
Edward opened his wallet, smiling in relief when he saw that the movie card was still inside.
Edward glanced at the clock, and raced out of his room. One minute and forty five seconds. Sometimes Edward wished his clock wasn't so accurate.
Edward ran past the bathroom, and then backed up a little. Alphonse had removed the large bathroom mirror while they had their tiles changed; but hadn't put it back yet. They both used it as a full body mirror, and found it useful.
Edward studied his reflection carefully. He had worn his hair in its usual braid, and he had chosen to wear a formfitting, red short-sleeved shirt; faded black jeans; and white canvas sneakers.
Satisfied with what he saw, he nodded once and made his way downstairs.
Edward had decided to dress up a little more; which meant he would wear something different than his usual black tank top and leather pants. To most people, this wouldn't be classified as 'dressing up'; but Edward was the type of person to wear the same clothes continuously- until they were filled with holes or started to smell.
Edward sat on one of the leather couches in the living room; watching the front door. Edward thought back to the last time he had seen Envy.
"Hey, Chibi!" Envy came up behind Edward and leaned over his shoulder; throwing his arms around him and purposely putting most of his weight on Edward.
"Envy, get off!" Edward growled, and tried to push Envy off of him.
Envy merely smirked and let go, holding his hands behind his back. "Aww, do you not love me anymore?" Envy put on a fake expression of hurt; causing a group of girls next to them to giggle.
Edward rolled his eyes. He grabbed one of Envy's arms, and dragged him out of the hallway and into a classroom. "Envy; it's the middle of school. What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be in Uni?"
Envy grinned. "Nope; someone blew up a classroom so we have the day off. So, I thought I'd visit you!"
Edward stared at Envy blankly. "Someone… blew up a classroom?"
Envy nodded happily. "Yup! Some guys in the Science area. They were having fun with chemicals, and boom! At least, that's what I heard. I think it was Kimbley's group that did it. I don't know."
Edward shook his head and sighed. "Why did they even let you in?"
Envy smirked. "The chick at the main office remembered me from year twelve. She must have a good memory; since that was two years ago."
Edward muttered, "No wonder, you're kinda hard to forget."
Envy pouted. True, having green hair and purple eyes makes it easy for people to recognise you; but Edward didn't have to put it like that."
"Yeah? Well, I bet people remember you too. Shorty."
Edward's eyes narrowed dangerously, but he restrained himself. "Envy, I'm sure you didn't come here to start a fight. Now, what do you want?"
Envy huffed and turned his head to the right; looking at Edward from the corner of his eye. "You're no fun here. Being in year twelve's making you stuck up."
Edward smiled slightly. "I'm not stuck up; I'm just trying to avoid a fight in the middle of lunch. Which, I might add, is ending soon. So, what do you want?"
Envy sighed, and propped himself up on the teacher's bench. They had walked into a Science classroom. "Do you love me?"
Edward looked at Envy, shocked. That's what he had come here for? Edward shrugged and leant against one of the student's desks. "Yeah, of course I do. Why?"
Envy shook his head. "No, I mean do you love me?"
Edward furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. "Yes, I do. Again, why?"
Envy suddenly looked away from Edward; as if he was embarrassed. "Well, we've been together for two years, right?"
Edward looked at Envy in curiosity, wondering where this was going. "Yeah, we have."
Envy looked down at the floor; glancing up at Edward from under his bangs. "Well, I was wondering if you would want to…take it further?"
Edward blinked in confusion. "Take what further?"
Envy looked at Edward with an incredulous expression, and gestured vaguely with his arms. "You know…"
Edward narrowed his eyes while thinking, and his face broke into a vivid blush. "You don't mean that, do you?"
Envy nodded, and Edward looked away sheepishly. "I don't know. It's a little weird, don't you think?"
Envy shrugged. "I guess. But, if you don't want to, I can wait. I think. Probably. Maybe."
Edward chuckled to himself. "Alright, fine. But I can still change my mind."
Envy opened his mouth to reply, but was cut off by the door opening. A middle aged man stood there, and was obviously a teacher. He glared at Edward, and his eyes widened at the sight of Envy.
"You." He hissed. "I thought I saw the last of you when you graduated. Two years ago. Why are you here?"
Envy grinned at him. "Hey, Archie."
The teacher stiffened. "It's Mr. Archer, and answer my question."
Envy mocked pouted. "What, a graduate can't visit their own school?"
Mr Archer glared at him, not fooled. "No. Now, get out before I give you detention."
Envy smirked. "I'm eighteen, and in Uni. You can't give me detention."
Mr Archer's eyes glinted maliciously as he mirrored Envy's smirk. "No, but your friend there is sixteen, and in school. I can give him detention."
Edward blanched as Envy's eyes widened. "You wouldn't."
Mr Archer's smirk grew as he glanced at Edward. "One week."
Edward's head turned sharply to look at Envy. "Go."
"But-"
"Two weeks!"
"Go!"
Envy hurried out of the classroom before Mr Archer could utter "Month."
Edward groaned at the memory. Mr Archer had been serious about the detention. Alphonse was going to kill him when he found out. He had been lucky enough for Alphonse to be at a friend's house and not notice his absence, but he was bound to notice on Monday.
Edward's train of thought was broken by a loud knock on the door. He stood up to open it, only to pause as it was opened from the outside.
Envy stepped inside, grinning happily. "It wasn't locked!"
Edward sighed, and looked away. Yet again, Envy had gone out of his way to be as different as possible. He had chosen to wear tight, black jeans; black thongs; and a grey turtleneck sweater. Only unlike normal people, he had taken the winter jumper and cut off half of it; so it revealed his abdomen, and completely defeated the purpose of the sweater.
His hair was styled in its usual spikes, but he had left the headband; making his hair seem longer and less gravity-defying.
Envy walked up to Edward, grabbed his hand, and dragged him out of the house. He opened the car door, shoved Edward inside, and walked around the car to get to the driver's side.
"So, Edo, what do you want to do first: the movie or dinner?"
Edward glanced at his watch. "Movie. It's too early for dinner."
Envy nodded in agreement, and backed out of the driveway.
The drive hadn't taken long, since the cinema was close to Edward's house.
Envy moved to park the car, but quickly slammed his foot down on the brake as a silver Mercedes sped out of nowhere and took the parking spot. "Shit." Envy muttered under his breath. The driver got out of the car after turning it off, and stuck his middle finger up at them.
Envy growled and drove to the next available spot; making sure to nearly run the guy over. Envy snickered darkly as he pulled into the space. Edward shook his head and got out, glancing at the guy who took their spot.
The guy looked to be in his late twenties, and had short, black hair. His dark eyes were slanted, and narrowed as he smirked at him. Before Edward could say anything, a girl across the road ran over to him. Edward grimaced. She was wearing too much make up, and she was wearing less clothes than Envy. Envy.
Edward shook his head in disgust, and walked over to Envy; who had already crossed the road. "What took you?" He asked.
Edward shrugged. "Just curious about who almost caused a crash. I do not need to give Al any more reason to torture me."
Envy looked surprised. "Torture? Your cute animal-loving, sunshine-shitting brother? I didn't know he had it in him. I respect him a little now."
Edward rolled his eyes and dragged Envy into the cinema. The cinema was a mixture of the old and the new. It had red and black leather seats, red carpet, high ceilings, complicated architecture, and chandeliers. Big ones, too.
As they stood in line, Edward looked up warily. Sure enough; a large, extravagant chandelier hung above him. Edward had always hated chandeliers. They were a waste of space and minerals, and were likely to fall.
When the line moved, Edward quickly dragged Envy closer to the people before them; trying to get away from the cursed chandelier.
Edward reached into his pocket, and pulled out his wallet. Envy looked surprised. "Ed? It's my turn to pay."
Edward opened his wallet, and pulled out the movie card. "I know, but that doesn't mean it has to be full price."
Envy smirked. "Cheapo."
Edward glared at him as they walked to the ticket booth.
The young woman behind the counter smiled flirtatiously at them. Edward glared at her while Envy smirked. Envy looked at the board behind her, which listed the names of movies which were showing.
Not having any idea about any of them, Envy decided to choose in a different way. "We'll have two tickets to whatever."
Edward raised an eyebrow at him, and the woman looked confused. "I'm sorry, but there isn't a move called 'Whatever' showing at the moment. Please choose another."
Envy and Edward stared at the woman, a little shocked. What a dense person.
Edward decided to get to the point. "What he means is; we don't know the movies. So, give us two tickets to a random one."
The woman smiled happily. Too happily, in Edward's opinion. "Okay then!"
She took the movie card and twenty dollar note off of the counter, and typed into the computer in front of her. She handed Envy several coins, and the movie card. Envy passed Edward the card as the computer printed their tickets.
The woman ripped the tickets out of the machine, and gave it to Envy. She winked at him, and looked over their shoulders to tend to the next customer.
Edward rolled his eyes and grabbed Envy's arm; dragging him toward the employee who collects tickets. Envy shrugged, and handed him the tickets.
The guy looked to be around sixteen, and had blonde hair. His blue eyes widened when he glanced at the tickets to rip them. He looked at Edward and Envy in turn, and raised an eyebrow. "You're seeing Twilight?"
Edward shrugged. "I guess so. We got that person to choose for us." He said, gesturing to the woman in the ticket booth.
The guy nodded in understanding. "That makes sense. Rose doesn't have good taste in movies. Horror's the best, I reckon. That and Sci-fi."
Edward glanced at his nametag. Apparently, his name was Florence.
The guy noticed Edward's gaze, and he quickly corrected him. "Oh, this uniform isn't mine. I'm borrowing it from someone else, since my uniform was soaked in coke."
Edward looked sceptical.
The guy shook his head. "Angry customer. Don't ask. My name is Russell, by the way. Not Florence."
Edward opened his mouth to give his own name, but was stopped by Envy taking their tickets, grabbing his elbow and then dragging him up the large staircase.
Envy looked over his shoulder at Edward, and smirked. "Ever the chivalrous one, aren't cha?"
Edward glared at him, shrugged off his hand and then walked ahead. "Can't help it. I was raised to be courteous."
Envy grinned. "I'll remember that next time someone calls you short."
Edward shot him a filthy look over his shoulder.
Envy held his hands up in a calming manner. "Relax, Ed. I didn't call you short."
Edward narrowed his eyes, and then turned right at the top of the second staircase.
Envy glanced down at the tickets in his hand, and then looked up at the signs on the walls. Envy turned in Edward's direction, and watched as he happily walked in the opposite direction.
"Hey, Ed! We're in cinema four; which is this way." Envy gestured behind him, and waited for Edward to turn around and walk to him, embarrassed.
"I knew that." Edward muttered.
Envy smirked. "Sure you did, Ed. Sure you did."
Edward ignored him and walked into the room. Envy followed behind him closely, looking around the dark room curiously. There were small lights on the roof, and they resembled stars in the sky. Nice effect, Envy thought. There were around eleven rows, and the last row had a small wall behind it. The projector was somewhere near the roof, so shadows weren't cast. Envy smirked; maybe he could use that to his advantage.
Edward looked at Envy expectantly, and Envy looked down at the tickets. He squinted in the darkness to see their seat numbers. There weren't any.
Envy shrugged, and handed Edward the tickets. "I can't see the seats."
Edward looked confused, and took the tickets. He held them close to his face, and then squatted to use the lights on the floor. He glanced at the tickets, and then stood up again. "Free seating."
Envy shrugged, and swept his eyes across the large room. There was an old couple in the front row, a large group of teenage girls in the centre, and a few couples in random seats near the front. The movie must have been out for a while, Envy mused.
Envy looked to his left, and grinned. The last five rows were empty.
"Let's sit here." Without waiting for a reply, Envy walked between the last two rows, and sat in the centre of the last row.
Edward shrugged, and walked over to sit next to Envy. They sat in silence as the lights dimmed and the trailers started.
Envy stared at them blankly. Trailers were never interesting. At least, not to him. He hoped that what they were seeing would be better than what was being advertised. What were they going to watch, anyway?
"Hey, Ed. What's the movie about?"
Edward glanced questioningly at Envy. "You think I'd know? We had that girl choose for us."
Envy nodded at the memory. "Let's just hope it's good. Hey, if we're lucky, it could be a horror! Or even better, gore." Envy grinned happily.
Edward shook his head. "No, if it was gore then it would be rated higher."
Envy pouted. Edward had a point. "Fine. We'll just wait and see, then."
Envy slumped forward, banging his head on the seat in front of him. The movie was so boring, Envy mentally complained. He glanced at Edward out of the corner of his eyes. He was staring ahead blankly. Envy sighed. He had been like that once he had finished his rant about how he was ashamed to share a name with "a character like that", and how the other main character was a mouth-breather. He had been silenced by several screams for him to kindly: "shut the fuck up and let us watch the friggin' movie we paid for, jackass," from the group of girls.
Envy sat up, and poked Edward in the forehead. "Hey, Ed, if I have to watch this then you do too."
Edward blinked lazily at him. "How long have we been here?"
Envy shrugged. "Dunno. Half an hour?"
Edward groaned loudly, and someone from the group of girls quickly screamed, "Shut up! We don't care if you make out, but keep it down!"
Edward blushed deeply while Envy smirked. That wasn't a bad idea.
Envy leaned close to Edward, who quickly backed away as far as he could without leaving his seat. Edward whispered harshly, "What are you doing?"
Envy smiled happily at him, but his eyes had taken on a plotting glint. And Edward knew from past experience that it was not good. "What do you think, Edward?" Envy purred, leaning even closer to him.
Edward bent back over the armrest; an attempt to put more distance between them. Envy merely grinned and put his hands on Edward's shoulders; holding him down.
Envy moved his knee onto the seat to support his weight, and leaned closer to Edward until his face was less than five centimetres away. "Well?"
Edward blinked in momentary surprise. Envy's question hadn't been rhetorical. "I think you're trying to push the boundaries and get away with whatever you can in a cinema. A cinema, Envy. With people. You should stop."
Envy merely moved forward and pressed his lips against Edward's. He stayed still for a few seconds, and then pulled back.
Edward looked up at him, surprised, as Envy moved away and into his seat; watching the movie again as if nothing had happened. Edward moved back into his own seat, and shot Envy a questioning glance.
Envy caught the look out of the corner of his eye, and he shrugged innocently. "What? You told me to stop. Of course, if you change your mind…" Envy winked at him suggestively.
Edward shook his head, and went back to watching the movie.
Envy pouted slightly, but then relaxed against the back of the seat. There would be time for that later. Envy smirked. He had a lot of things planned for later.
