× Summary: Matsujun and Riida are out together for a job and during that time they are particularly close… Leader notices that recently Jun is not behaving like usual, so he manages to stay alone with him in order to help him to vent out his troubles… but he’s not aware that he himself is the main cause of Jun’s change of behavior.

----- ----- -----

Jun looked at his leader letting out a low sigh.
How was it possible for him to be always so carefree? So naïve, so innocent…
As if he had never any kind of problem.
He was the oldest among them, but somehow he has never taken the role of the responsible one. Sho-kun had more that image, along with Jun himself of course.
Because the youngest member had always liked to be in charge of preparations, to check if everything was settled when it came to their shows or concerts, to stay at work overtime just to review that day’s filming in order to figure out if there was something that he could have done better somehow… he was a perfectionist.

And every time he found himself thinking about that, he couldn’t recall how he had fallen for him.
They weren’t similar at all!
They had opposite tastes and habits when it came to hobbies, dressing, art, more in general: things that they considered important…
Matsumoto was totally devoted to his work and his career, always aiming for something more important, a new drama, a new show… something useful to Arashi’s popularity.
Ohno was totally devoted to… his free time!
It was like he hadn’t a true motivation about his own job, but it was simply something that he had happened to do. Even so, everybody knew that he was always completely focused when it came to singing and dancing, also because he was indeed the best among them (and not only among Arashi!).
Probably, he was a natural talent.
Where Jun had to try his best in order to reach a good result, his leader could simply “have a try” and he would succeed as well.
No wonder that Mr. Kitagawa tricked him two times in order to make him debut.
The first time it didn’t went well, as Ohno replied that he didn’t like volleyball so he unwittingly missed his chance to join V6… then, the second time, he actually recorded that fabulous song that became Arashi’s debut song… and Jun could say that it was all luck.
He could have denied again. Or he could have accepted the first invitation.

He sighed again.
It was a little unusual for him to think at such old events… they had been together for 10 years already! He should have nearly forgotten those things already!
But now he was unwillingly spending his time rummaging over it because… he wasn’t actually doing what he was supposed to do!
That day they had a photo-shoot together, he and Ohno-san, for the 5th March Issue of Non-No magazine… but his band-mate was actually chatting cheerfully with the photographer, and they weren’t talking about work at all!
As a matter of fact, the oldest Arashi member was talking about fishing for the umpteenth time… of course, when he had to talk, this was his main topic.
“Riida…” he interrupted them, trying not to be too insistent “Why don’t we get started now? I’m sure we both want to finish this as soon as possible…”
Ohno looked at him a little surprised, as if he had completely forgot that they were there for work… but he knew very well that expression on his band-mate’s face, because when it came to Jun everything had to be done perfectly, everyone knew that.
He was strict and meticulous, and he didn’t like to waste time.
The leader didn’t reply, but the photographer did, turning back to a fully serious and professional mode: “You’re right Matsumoto-san. Please forgive me; we can get started right away! Please move towards the beds as I showed you before…”

They had already done that kind of shooting countless times by now, since they had started working into the Agency… today they were supposed to pose together with a theme decided by Sakurai-kun: “Sleeping Arashi - Revealing their sleep habits”
And so, they were in a hotel, posing with some expensive pajamas and acting some cute activities before pretending to fall asleep…
“Be cute” was the order to follow.
As always.
“Keep smiling and show your amusement while enjoying your time with your band-mate”
As if someone could really believe that they were used to play cards or do a battle-cushion every night before going to sleep…
But most of all, how was he supposed to enjoy?
Jun was trying hard in order to show that. Because right now he wasn’t enjoying at all, it was all fake.
He didn’t want to pretend that he was having fun with his leader; he wanted to do that for real.
Far away for those cameras, without all those people looking at them…
Anyhow, since it was work he could do it. He carried out every single request made by the photographer: he played jokingly with Ohno, he posed awake and acted asleep, he smiled and laughed…
Until the job was done at last.

“Thank you for your hard work!”
Matsumoto felt relieved when he heard those words. But when he looked at the clock he realized that it was nearly midnight.
How was it possible that they took so long for such a simple task?
He looked at his leader, who once again was chatting cheerfully with the staff members… of course, it was his fault.
“I should have known that it would have ended in this way!” he mumbled to himself
But even though he had spoken in a very low voice, Ohno had actually heard him and replied in an amused tone, pretending to keep talking with the staff: “Matsujun seems a little angry because it’s a bit late…”
Was he going to tease him?
Jun hoped that he wasn’t, because he was particularly pissed and it would have been very easy for him to start a fight.
He hoped that his leader was talking innocently, without realizing the impact of his words…
But he wasn’t innocent at all because when he realized that Matsumoto wasn’t going to reply, he kept mocking him.
“It seems that he prefers to work steadily and seriously, without bothering to enjoy time with other people…”
What was going on with him?
Was he being provocative on purpose?
“I wonder why he was such in a hurry to finish this, as if he had someone who’s waiting for him at home…”
“Ohi, Riida!” burst out the younger, now seriously annoyed “What the hell are you talking about? What’s with you today?”
He didn’t want to raise his voice, really, but he couldn’t help it now.
And much to his surprise, the older man wasn’t disappointed at all by his harsh reaction.
Instead, he had a huge grin on his face, and he was looking at him in satisfaction.
“Finally I gained a reply from you! I was wondering how long you were going to pretend… It has been quite a long time since you last had a good reaction like this, you know? I was sort of… missing it!”
Jun stared in disbelief at his band-mate. He surely wasn’t expecting that come-out…
Actually, it was true that he had restrained himself a lot lately, but he had thought that it would have been a good idea, in order to improve his relationships with other people.
In order to appear at least a little more gentle and not so scary, as everyone was used to say.
“Is there something that is troubling you? You’re not your usual self lately…” continued Ohno, looked somehow worried.
And this was absolutely unusual.
Not Riida to be concerned, since he had always been a caring person, but rather… it was strange for him to start this kind of talk.
He would have expected it from Sho maybe, or Nino sometimes, but coming from Ohno was… strange!
“I… maybe…” he didn’t know what to answer.
Probably because the main reason of his change of mood was leader himself.
It has been quite a long time since he had first realized to have a crush on him: at the beginning he had innocently tried not to think about him, then he started staring and admiring him from a distance, then again he tried his best to look impressive in order to be noticed by him, more than the anyone else… but none of these tactics had brought any tangible result.
Instead, he had gained the role of the DoS, the pedantic, the demanding one… and recently, he had started feeling bothered by this.
The time when he was just a cute young boy, full of admiration for his leader, was far away… now his personality had changed so much that he had completely grow away from that person, so much that he couldn’t even say that they had something in common.
Apart from being both Arashi members of course, but it was something he shared also with other three members, that were surely more attached to Riida than he was.
Without realizing it, he had moved away from the person he loved, while trying to do the exact opposite thing.
And this made him feel unease… because he really didn’t know how to act towards him anymore.

“It’s just that… this is not the moment… It’s already quite late and we don’t have time…” he tried to find some excuse.
He wanted to escape.
But Ohno didn’t seem to be yielding that day… for some reason, he was insisting.
“Don’t worry about that” he replied with another bright smile “We can dispose of this hotel room tonight. We can have all the time we need!”
“Oh… great!” answered Jun unconvincingly, aware that he couldn’t refuse that proposal.
But definitely, he wasn’t Riida the man that was standing in front of him.

----- ----- -----

“So… what’s troubling you?” asked gently the Arashi’s leader sitting on the bed next to his younger friend, once all the people from the staff had left.
They were both wearing those outfits, since they were allowed to keep them after the photo-shoot, and seeing such an unusual serious Ohno dressed in that way… made the whole situation even more weird.
“I… don’t know why you’re thinking that I’m troubled” declared Matsumoto at the end “But with regard to my behavior, I’m simply trying to be more mature, that’s all. I can’t keep scolding other people all the time for any silly thing!”
“Do you really think so?” asked sincerely curious the other man “Actually, I’ve always thought that you’re quite mature, because you can be responsible both for yourself and for others…”
“I’m not that dependable” mumbled Jun in response “Sho-kun is. I’m more a nuisance, an insistent and pretending person, more than someone you would rely on”
“But I trust you, Jun-kun” whispered softly Ohno, coming closer to him
Again, he was behaving strangely.
He wasn’t used to call him in that way… and to be so sweet as well.
“What… What do you mean, Riida?”
“It’s because I know that you’re that responsible, enough for the whole group, that I can relax this much. After all, I couldn’t bear this job if I had to face all the responsibilities like you do… I’m not really a leader.”
Hearing at his voice, Matsumoto could tell that he had turned more serious now.
“I wouldn’t probably be an idol if it wasn’t for Arashi members. …If it wasn’t for you.”
Jun turned to look at his band-mate and realized only in that moment that he was unexpectedly near.
“Riida… you’re over-talking… You can’t possibly…”
Then, he recalled.
The one who made him notice that he should have changed his harsh behavior was Nino.
The very same person with whom Riida spent most of his time when they were doing some shooting for their shows. The one with whom Riida talked the most. The one who had surely suggested him this joke.
“It’s enough”
The younger man stood up all of a sudden. “I think I should go home, really”
He didn’t want to know if Ohno was aware or not about his true feelings, probably not… but he was sure that Nino was.
This was a bad joke, indeed.

…to be continued…

This is my little answer to yuliflor’s request: “The next one could be a JunToshi, angst, romance...” :p (and more will come!) ^__^ I hope you liked it!

Moreover, the background setting came out thanks to felixkeep, since she had posted three different translated scans of Non no Magazine and I’ve taken one of those (the other two will come out too, soon or later...)
Of course, if you should find some other scans of Non-No that you’d like to suggest me (since I’m quite poor in raw materials XD) let me know, so I’ll go on with other chapters like this one ^^

rating: pg, fanfiction, genre: romance, length: chaptered, genre: angst, pairing: ohno satoshi/matsumoto jun, genre: friendship, setting: real life
