Summary: Henry sleeps in.  Hankyung has to wake him up

Hankyung loved taking care of the younger members of the group, but realized that he had a newfound respect for Leeteuk. No offence to their leader, but nobody in their right mind would want to take care of 12 other loud, rambunctious and occasionally emotional boys. There were only 7 members in SJ-M and he still had a hard time.

Mornings were especially difficult. Breakfast was easy since he loved to cook. And Ryeowook would sometimes get up early to give him a hand. Siwon was always up as soon as the sun rose. Sometimes he’d even be up before Hankyung. Those mornings were the best because he knew that a cup of coffee would always be ready for him.  Zhou Mi had his good days and his bad days. He got up early 50% of the time. The other 50% was easily solved with a rubber spider placed on his face.

No, mornings were only a problem when it came to the other three members: Donghae, Kyuhyun and Henry. The three of them were extremely difficult to wake up. Each for different reasons.

First, there was Kyuhyun. The Starcraft-fanatic was always up late playing games. Hankyung had threatened to cut off their Internet connection numerous times, but that was pretty much an empty threat. He knew that he couldn’t really do that without affecting the other members of the group. At first, he set up a time-limit. Kyuhyun would only be allowed to play until 11pm. When 11pm rolled around and Hankyung said that it was time to go to sleep, Kyuhyun would whine and say, “Hyung, just a few more minutes, okay?”Hankyung liked to consider himself a nice person, so he would always give in. But in just one week, the 11pm curfew had extended to 1am. He still didn’t really know how that happened, but he blamed himself for letting Kyuhyun get away with it. So, Hankyung always let him get a few more minutes of sleep because he felt guilty that he couldn’t be more strict.

Donghae was difficult, not because of his inability to wake up on time, but more for the amount of damage he could inflict upon whoever was waking him up. In Donghae’s defense, he didn’t really know what he was doing during those moments. He blamed it on the fact that aliens would try to abduct him in his sleep and he needed to be prepared when something tried to touch him while he was in bed. Ryeowook once suggested that Hankyung should try to wake him up from a distance using the end of a broom, “That way, you’ll be far away when Donghae-hyung attacks you.” Hankyung thought that was a great idea…Until he found out that Donghae had learned to use projectile weapons and ended up with an alarm clock to the groin.

When Henry first started sleeping in, Hankyung thought that he was suffering from jetlag. Moving from Canada to Korea and then to China would disrupt anyone’s sleeping patterns. After a few weeks, he found out that Henry just liked to sleep in. Hankyung thought that waking Henry would be the easiest of the three. And it was. He would wake Henry up and the young boy would apologize for sleeping in. No emotional guilt or physical pain involved. Recently, however, whenever the older boy went into Henry’s room to wake him up, he would end up staring at the sleeping boy. He would just stand there for minutes just watching Henry, not fully understanding why he was so fascinated with him.

“Huh?” Hankyung walked into Henry’s room and looked around. “Where’s Henli?”

Zhou Mi popped his head in the room. “Weren’t he and Donghae-shi watching movies last night? Maybe he slept in his room.”

“Thanks.”

Hankyung slowly opened the door to Donghae’s room and peeked in. The two boys were asleep on Donghae’s bed and he couldn’t help the pang of jealousy when he saw Henry curled up next to the other boy. The curtain was slightly open and a sliver of light was shining down on Henry’s face. He thought that it made the young boy look like an angel. Henry’s pajamas were slightly open at the neck and Hankyung caught a glimpse of pale skin beneath the collar. He’s so beautiful, he thought. Then he shook himself, trying to clear his head of those thoughts. Wake him first. Stare at him later.

He eyed Donghae wearily before kneeling next to Henry. He brushed his hand against the soft skin, gently sweeping the loose strands of hair from his face. Hankyung’s fingertips grazed across the soft, full lips and he briefly wondered what it would feel like to have them against his own. He leaned down and could feel Henry’s warm breath. “Henli-ah,” he whispered, “time to get up.” He felt the young boy stirring beneath his touch and regretfully withdrew his hand.

“Gege?” Henry mumbled sleepily. The little boy blinked owlishly at Hankyung and smiled. “Just a few more minutes?” he asked hopefully. “Please.”

As leader, Hankyung knew that he should refuse, but he couldn’t help the pleading look Henry was giving him. “OK,” he conceded. “I’ll be back in a few minutes,” he said, moving to get up.

“Stay.” Hankyung paused.  He was pretty sure that he hadn’t heard correctly, but then he felt a hand grab his own. He let himself get pulled down and lay beside Henry. “Gege, you work too hard. You should get a few extra minutes for yourself, too,” Henry said, laying on the older man’s chest and snuggling up to him. “Next time, will you watch a movie with us, too?”

“Okay,” Hankyung replied softly, stroking Henry’s hair. “What did you watch last night, anyway?” he asked.

“Hmm?” Henry said sleepily. “Something about alien abductions. Donghae-hyung wanted to watch it for tips on alien protection.”

Hankyung just smiled in response. Having Henry in his arms was giving him a sensory overload. Had he been thinking clearly, he would have been able to process what he just heard. So it was entirely his fault when Donghae pounced on him, thinking the older man was an alien trying to abduct his friend, “Don’t take Henli!”

As the two boys wrestled on the ground next to him, Henry just buried himself deeper into the bed and went back to sleep. That was how he learned that sleeping next to Donghae may not necessarily protect him from aliens, but it did buy him a few minutes extra to sleep in.
