A/N: My first INIFINITE fanfic.. that I posted. Kekeke, Please enjoy reading and give me feedback~ It will help my non-existent writing skills. :3 And oh, the title came from a Kagrra's song. They're a japanese band that I love. Listen to it while you read if you like. Here's a quick link.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xeXuPyi_v0 It was at a random at first. Like a random song being played on fate’s playlist.
Sungyeol was leaning his head on his hand while droning out the current lesson on how important the Dada Movement or some rebellious art propaganda was when his seatmate nudged his shoulders to ask what time the class is going to end. He answered absent-mindedly, not even looking at the person.
The next time was during period break. He was surfing the net on his notebook when someone asked to sit next to him. Yet again, he nodded absentmindedly in response.
Then another time was when he was innocently sitting at his usual place in a café, waiting for his order of iced Americano. As he flipped through a History book and wrote vigorously on his review sheet, a quite familiar voice voiced out his order. With his distracted mind, Sungyeol just let it go and nodded, looking back at his notebook, not noticing the other’s slow movements as he put down his drink.
And it was like fate was playing with him. Two weeks ago, at the bus stop, he got to know who the person was. He was checking his phone for the time when an oddly familiar voice asked him what the time was.
Right there, at the moment he looked up, he met Kim Myungsoo.
----
They got close quickly. In some of his art classes, Myungsoo was his seatmate when the professor required them to be seated in alphabetical order due to some weird kink or OCD shit they have. Like this one for today.
“Hey, did you watch the video of the Beijing Olympics opening?” Myungsoo asked as he slid onto the chair next to Sungyeol, looking through his knapsack.
Sungyeol looked up from his notebook, staring at the rummaging Myungsoo with wide eyes. “No. Why? Are we required to do something?”
“Pabo. We’re required to do a whole page of aesthetic analysis on the performance!”
“Shit, I forgot about that!” Sungyeol squeaked as he quickly sat down to search for the said video.
Myungsoo clicked his tongue, handing the other a small USB. “Here, the video’s there. The whole performance is not uploaded anywhere. I looked through the internet the whole night to find that. Copy it, watch it and start working.”
Grabbing the device, Sungyeol quickly went to work. “Thanks! It would’ve been my second time without homework if not for you!”
“What would you do without me? Aren’t I the sweetest friend you got?”
Sungyeol turned around, ready to argue, but he stilled as he saw Myungsoo, a playful yet taunting grin plastered across his face. He just shook his head, a small grin placed on his own face as he started to watch and analyze the video.
----
They got each other’s numbers and were frequently talking to each other. They liked different things but when they shared their likes to each other, they clicked. It was like they were fated to know each other.
“Hey, do you know this band?” Sungyeol asked, sliding the notebook between him and Myungsoo. They were on a café, lounging on the soft sofa while drinking. On the table was Sungyeol’s prized Americano and Myungsoo’s favorite caramel frappucccino.
“What’s that? Is that Japanese?”
“Yeah. They are awesome. Look, this video’s got subtitles. Look at the meaning.”
“Wow… This one is kind of deep. Why is there a kid?”
“It’s about abortion.”
Myungsoo looked up at Sungyeol, who was watching the video with a smile on his face. “W-what?”
“I said, the song is about abortion… Or the emotion behind abortion. It’s cool right? I mean, when you read the meaning while hearing it, your heart will ache.” The brown-haired boy replied while sending a glance at the other.
“Quite deep meaning, wait let me watch again and be focused on the lyrics and emotion this time.” Myungsoo said, leaning down as he plugged in some earphones to replay the video.
And as the way Myungsoo’s eyes slowly focused on the lyrics and the manner in which he bit his lower lip, Sungyeol felt a small pride for having someone like Myungsoo to like the things he does and appreciate them the same way he did.

Even though they were in different classes, they often talk through their phones by sending quick messages to keep each other from falling asleep.

It was inevitable that they were always together. Well, after class that is. They’ll together be off eating some lunch at a very cheap place. Today was one of the days where they were at their favorite resting place, eating spicy rice cakes and munching on rice rolls.
With their small group of friends, Myungsoo sat next to Sungyeol, arms draped over his shoulders, trying his best to stuff more food into the taller one’s mouth.
“Yah, Myungsoo-hyung! It’s gross! Stop it!” It was Sungjong, a friend of Sungyeol’s who works with Myungsoo at the coffee shop the long-legged guy frequented.
“Yeah, it makes me lose my appetite.” Hoya sniggered along with Woohyun. Woohyun was Myungsoo’s friend while Hoya was a classmate in one of their classes. He was sitting next to Dongwoo who was Myungsoo’s cousin.
Sunggyu, who was their college’s student council vice-president and Sungyeol’s childhood friend, was watching them carefully. Eyebrow raised in silent question towards Sungyeol as the other straightened up and chewed on the vegetables that Myungsoo shoved into his mouth.
Lunch ended so quickly and noisily as it was rare for all seven of them to be together. And as they parted ways, Sunggyu pulled Sungyeol to the side while gesturing the others goodbye.
“What was that?” Sungyeol asked gruffly, signaling for Myungsoo to wait for him at the bus stop before staring at Sunggyu who was wearing a dim expression on his face.
“Stop it.”
“Stop what?”
“Falling in love with him.”
Sungyeol then stared at the other one with wide eyes, an indescribable expression plastered on his features. “Are you saying that I’m in love with my best friend, hyung?”
Sunggyu’s almost non-existent eyes carefully examined the tall boy’s features, lips twitching a bit in hidden frustration. “Lee Sungyeol, I’ve been taking care of you since childhood. I know you’re feeling something for him. And it’s something more than friendship. Look, I really don’t have business in your love life or whatever it is. But Yeol-ah..”
This was new. Sunggyu always calls out ‘Yeol-ah’ when he’s serious and very desperate.
“The way you two look at each other might look that there’s something going on between you two, but I can see it’s only on your side. Myungsoo might act like that because you’re his best friend, not because he has something for you too. I just don’t want you to keep your hopes up, Yeol-ah. The earlier you stop it, the less damaged your heart will get.” Sunggyu finished with a sigh, pulling Sungyeol close for a hug.
Hands wrapping around his hyung, Sungyeol closed his moist eyes and held on his hyung tight. “Hyung… I don’t know if I am indeed falling for him. But I want to try… Whatever it is that we are.”
“Just don’t hope for too much, Sungyeol.”
----
Myungsoo was sitting on the bench at the bus stop when Sungyeol found him. He crept quietly to the other’s side, noting the younger has not noticed him yet and suddenly grabbed on the other’s shoulders.
“YAH!”
Sungyeol almost ran out of breath in laughter as Myungsoo fell down the bench in shock, eyes wide and a hand over his heart.
“Gotcha!”
“Yah Lee Sungyeol!”
They ran around in circles at the bus stop, not noticing the amused looks the other people waiting in line was throwing them. And as they sat on the bus, both were completely out of breath. It was then that Sungyeol was indeed sure that what he felt was more than friendship.
When Myungsoo’s head slowly leaned on his shoulder, Sungyeol glanced at him. He was too close. He stared intently at the long lashes, the glowing skin and the kissable lips. After getting the feeling of wanting to kiss his best friend’s lips, Sungyeol was indeed right on point.
He, Lee Sungyeol, had fallen in love with his best friend, Kim Myungsoo.
----
“I’m sorry. I’m not ready- either to give out confessions or to be confessed to, Sungyeol-ah.”
Those were the words that shook up Sungyeol’s innermost being. He admitted to liking Myungsoo more than a friend, hoping the other will feel the same and not reject him but fate was cruel that day. And Sungyeol was the random one who got the not-so-good music of the day, the music of a broken heart.
“It’s cool. I just, wanted to tell you. It’s... Not nice to keep things from a friend right?”
Myungsoo’s hand reached out, trying to pat Sungyeol on the shoulder, a gesture he always do to comfort the tall brunette. The warm hand on him made Sungyeol smile, albeit forced.
“It’s cool Myungsoo, don’t worry.”
“Still friends?”
“Yeah, still friends.”
And they shook hands, acted out like nothing happened. Like opening his chest and giving his heart out was nothing. Like how Myungsoo sliced through his entire being didn’t happen.
----
Sungyeol thought everything was back to normal. But indeed, fate hated him.
The nightly phone messages gradually disappeared. It started when Myungsoo replied so slowly, to the point of Sungyeol falling asleep, phone clutched tight in his hands. Then slowly, he doesn’t even bother replying to Sungyeol anymore.
It was fine to Sungyeol, of course. But what really broke him was Myungsoo was acting indifferent towards him. Sudden distance was suffocating Sungyeol and it rendered him into the crying mess he was as he got to his rented studio room, skipping the all the lovely dinners his mom delivered.
Deciding to drown his sadness in caffeine, Sungyeol pushed the door to the café open, knowing it was Myungsoo’s day off, and made way to his favorite spot- his and Myungsoo’s favorite spot - only to stop on his tracks as he looked up to see Myungsoo, arms wrapped around another. A girl. Their faces so close as the other boy wiped the cream off the girl’s lips and licked it. Tears were slowly cascading down his cheeks as he watched the scene, a scene he wanted to stop yet it was so perfect and beautiful that he just stood to watch.
He didn’t even notice Sungjong gasp, ushering him away towards the back of the counter, letting the taller boy slide down to his knees and cry his poor heart out. Just mere meters from the boy he learned to love.
----
“I told you.. I told you to stop it.” Sunggyu mumbled, not wanting his voice to scare off Sungyeol, afraid that the younger might cry again.
It took him long enough to calm the boy down but it wasn’t as bad as the day he brought Sungyeol back from the café. Sungyeol was plastered to the wall, hugging his knees, soft sobs coming from him. His friend never looked so pitiful, Sunggyu thought as he brought the boy back to his own place.
He shook his head and glanced at the other. The tall boy was on the floor. His once bright eyes now devoid of emotion as he stared at a blank canvass that towered over him. His face was blank, dried tear tracks still visible on his chubby cheeks that had sunken as he refused to eat.
Still pitiful, Sunggyu thought but pitying him won’t do.
He wrapped his arms around Sungyeol’s thin frame. Careful, slow. Afraid he might break his already broken friend when he felt long, thin fingers slowly wrap around his wrist.
“I’m sorry hyung… For not listening to you. And sorry… For burdening you like this…” A deep breath. “But then… I forgot how my life was before I met Myungsoo… Please be patient with me hyung, I.. I’ll try to find myself back..”
Oh his friend, his poor friend. Still thinking of others.
And finally, Sunggyu let his tears fall.
----
Semester finals came and Sungyeol submitted his final plate, a 2 feet x 3 feet canvass. A perfect grade it got and it was chosen to be part of the end-of-semester art exhibit.
Students bustled around the large gallery. Some peering carefully at the paintings and sketches, the others debating what techniques were used, while most of the people just openly admired the pretty splash of colors on thick canvasses.
Sungyeol stood by the doorway, guarding and instructing people to sign on the guestbook and make comments if possible as they exit the exhibition.
“Hi hyung~!!”
He glanced up to see Sungjong and Sunggyu smiling at him. The two came in, pulling him along to the back of the gallery where his large painting was displayed.
It showed an image of an angel, kneeling as he reached up. His left wing was ripped halfway, a part still on the angel’s back and the other part was being held on by another angel who was floating so only the lower part of the anatomy was shown in the canvass.
The most breathtaking was the emotion on the broken angel’s face. A look of longing over hurt was showing on his features. The gesture of his hand was so stretched out to reach the other angel’s hand. Full of lost love and anguish, beautifully combined to create a picture of complete heartache.
“Nice painting Sungyeol. Best one as of yet.” Sunggyu said, smiling gently at the tall guy and held his hand. “It’s about Myungsoo... Am I right?”
Sungyeol just nodded, smiling at the name.
He learned a lot of things from Kim Myungsoo and all of them were positive and helped him.
He learned to love. He learned to accept. And he learned how to be broken hearted.
Sunggyu sighed and let go of Sungyeol’s hand. “Are you okay?”
“Yes hyung. I’m fine.” Sungyeol smiled and turned around to go back to his post near the entrance.
He glanced down on the book, checking if the people that exited signed on the guestbook. He smiled as the names increased only to stop at a certain name and he felt his body got rigid.
Guest name:
103. Kim Myungsoo
Comments/Reactions:
I’m sorry. Let me explain. You’ve been avoiding me for months, Sungyeol. Look up.
And there he was, just outside the glass door of the gallery, Kim Myungsoo in all his dashing glory. A small smile tugged on Sungyeol’s lips as Myungsoo waved and smiled at him.
Fate was really random. But this time, Sungyeol hoped, this time… Fate will stop her random music play on the good choice of song for Sungyeol’s life.
