Icon coloring tutorial! Done in Photoshop CS3 Extended and is TRANSLATABLE. Uses Color Balance, Curves and Color Fill layers.

The image is quite dark, so I duplicated the layer and set it to SCREEN 100%.
It was still too dark for my liking, so I duplicated the screen layer 2 more times.
So now there are 3 screen layers (all at 100% opacity)

Now I've lost some contrast. I decided to duplicated the base image, dragged it on
top of all the layers and set it to SOFTLIGHT 100%.

How the layers look right now.

With most of my icons, I always start with Color Balance. I like messing with the blues and magentas first. Here are the settings I used.

I used #c1309d and set to SATURATION 40% Opacity.
Also, I erased some areas I didn't like - specifically her eye area.

Here are my settings.

The image still seems a little bland to me, so I decided to use curves.
Here are my settings:

I like the color, but I want a slightly softer look. I decided to set the curves to COLOR 100% Opacity. View all layers.

DONE. FINAL RESULT!
