I thought it was about time I updated this journal, after many many months of neglect and general disrespect. I'm pretty sure a lot of the LJ population is making the move to evil MySpace, which is probably just as bad as this place so in effect this is going to be read by a total of 5 (maybe even 6?) people. And that's just fine by me, as LJ has always served as a 'thing' where I can just type random bullshit and it appears on the world wide web for all to see.
For the past 10 weeks or so I've been working at a surface coal mine in central Queensland, Australia. Callide Mine (operated by Anglo Coal Australia, subsidiary of Anglo American) is about 650km from my home in Brisbane, Australia so I'm pretty far away from home. Definetly not a short drive away by all means. Let me rephrase that; I'm not actually doing much useful work, rather getting payed to obtain professional engineering experience required to finish my degree. The pay is not bad, and I'm living with 3 other university students doing the same thing, who are all very nice people with the exception of one, and that's okay.
The only bad thing is I'm stuck in a town of 6000 with nothing but two pubs and a couple of old people's institutions.Good thing Rockhampton and Gladstone (two reasonably sized cities) are just 1.5 hours away by car. Last Saturday night we went to a club in Rocky and I saw lots of pretty girls. Sigh. I've got three weeks left in this pathetic excuse for civilization until I'm back at university. I honestly can't wait to get home and not having to wake up at 5:30 everyday. The only way I'm getting through this is reminding myself I'm actually getting payed OK money for it.
I'm actually very, very bored right now... I've completed my main two projects and I have no fuckin idea what I'm going to do for the next couple of weeks here. I wish we were allowed to drive haul trucks or something, they do that at some other mines. Damn I'm out of ideas to write about, so I'm goneeee.
I have no idea who's active on LJ these days any more, so give us a buzz!
