Has it actually been three years since I last worked on a subtitling project? Man, time really passed me by lol.
Anyway, I couldn't be more ecstatic that my new project is a drama coming from the writer of Soredemo, Ikite Yuku and Saikou no Rikon. I've been anticipating Quartet ever since it was announced last year. The amount of talent that this show has gathered is explosive. We have the two gorgeous and extremely talented Matsu Takako and Mitsushima Hikari playing our female leads, and two very capable male counterparts in Matsuda Ryuhei and Takahashi Issei. The first episode left me feeling pretty good about the show. It's been two and a half years since Sakamoto wrote something that I truly enjoyed (which was the one episode he wrote for Oyaji no Senaka), so fingers (and toes) crossed that Quartet lives up to all its potential!

Episode 1:
mega (made a couple of small adjustments)
Episode 2:
megaTranslating this drama really makes me appreciate every subtlety and detail that I could have very easily overlooked if I were just simply a viewer. I still don't completely get Maki's reference to Teresa Teng's songs in this episode but maybe some of you will have an explanation/interpretation for it?
Episode 3:
mega (updated subtitles with Beppu's note to Suzume near the beginning)
Episode 4:
mega (updated with Iemori's song title)
Phew! That was one difficult episode to translate. Sakamoto is a master at dialogue, which is exactly why it can be such a challenge to try to preserve all his original meanings and subtexts at times. Anyway, here's finally episode 4 and my favorite episode so far (Kouta is a sweetie!).
Episode 5:
mega Episode 6:
megaI did NOT expect that ending!
Episode 7:
mega (updated with Suzume's song title)
Iemori is killing me with his puns lol.
Episode 8:
megaI've been the biggest Suzume x Iemori fan since day 1 (and episode 4 where Iemori pretty much tells Suzume she is his type). I'd kill for an ending where they end up together, but this is a Sakamoto Yuji script we're talking about and not a cliched getsuku drama. Anyway, this is a lovely episode and my new favorite yet. Only two episodes left of this gem! :(
Episode 9:
megaWhew, it has been a whirlwind of a week. This episode cements my love for Matsu Takako, who's delivered us a wonderfully strong, enigmatic and vulnerable Maki. Now onto episode 10~
Episode 10 (END):
mega It has been a wonderful ride, everybody! Thanks to all those who have stuck with this drama and me till the end. From time to time, a drama like Quartet gets made, completely charms me and reminds me why I stay in J-dramaland.

P/S: Is anyone else also watching Super Salaryman Saenai-shi? I'm all for Tsutsumi Shinichi playing a superhero who is in fact an ineffectual salaryman!
