Avast! Look Upon The Day, Ye All!

Sep 19, 2006 18:29

Yar, it be Talk Like A Pirate Day! So in honor of our fallen mates, let's all drink a hearty rum to all o' them! Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life fer me!

I'd also like ta propose a drink to Robert Newton, patron saint of this fine day. And ta Sir David Barry, who spread tha word of this most fine day. And, o' course, not to forget the two fine scoundrels who founded this endevor, Ol' Chum Bucket and Cap'n Slappy! (landlubber names were John Baur and Mark Summers, respectin')

Tis a most fine day fer lootin' and pillagin' and countin' o' booty. Best ye hope I don't come fer yers! (Though some of ye lovely poppets I wouldn't mind a' pilling' yer booties! Yar har har har!) Maybe tha crew and I can sing some loverly shantys fer ya all, ta show we aren't such bad fellas after all! C'mon, ya'll, let's sing 'em a song dey won't soon ferget!

Most days are like all of the others,
Go to work, come back home, watch TV,
But, brother, if I had me druthers,
I'd chuck it and head out to sea,

For I dream of the skull and the crossbones,
I dream of the great day to come,
When I dump the mundane for the Old Spanish Main
And trade my computer for rum! ARRR!

T' me,
Yo, Ho, Yo, Ho,
It's "Talk Like A Pirate" Day!
When laptops are benches God gave us for wenches,
And a sail ain't a low price to pay!
When timbers are shivered and lillies are livered
And every last buckle is swashed,
We'll abandon our cars for a shipfull of ARRRs
And pound back the grog till we're sloshed. Yo ho..

How'd ya enjoy that? Well, it be time to pay up, lest ye meet Davey Jones down on the sea floor. Let's all have some grog in his honor, fer him and those lost souls on the Flying Dutchman! Yo ho!

Avast! There be the Navy! We best be sailin' away! Git yer jiggers tied and tha bunt gasket 'round the mast! No time for Gilbert and Sullivan, I fear! Away, ye scurvy dogs, away!
