Meanwhile on Runescape

"Think the Raptor will take 'couldn't finish, too crowded for an answe" (character limit)
"No he'll just give you the bird"
"Actually that might be worth seeing LOL"

For November's promotion, NPC The Raptor is uncharacteristically acting as Slayer Master to introduce a bunch of new Slayer monsters, one per week. Last week was Wyverns (Skeletal Wyverns existed already, these are the living version that were previously thought extinct), this week it's Ripper Demons (a reference to the One Piercing Note quest, where such a demon was blamed for the murder of several nuns, as well as to Jack the Ripper).

For players who don't qualify to hunt the new monsters, he's giving Slayer tasks and double XP rewards, but no Slayer Points.

My progress so far:
- Aberrant Spectres (2 tasks): I've fought these before on normal Slayer tasks. The best location for them is Slayer Tower in Morytania, and they require the use of a nose peg or Slayer Mask because their stench will drain your stats, but otherwise they're not difficult, just annoying. They're weak to crossbows and drop lots of mid-to-high-tier herbs. Other Slayers were present, but I pretty much just found a room nobody else was using to spawn-camp.
- Waterfiends (1 task): I hadn't fought these on Slayer tasks before. The best location for them is the Ancient Caverns in Kandarin (they also appear at Gharrock Fortress, but that's a pain in the butt), and they don't require special equipment, but they are strong, fast, and durable. They're weakest to crossbows and drop lots of crimson Summoning charms. This area was a little crowded with other Slayers, and too open for me to isolate and spawn-camp like I did in Slayer Tower, so this task was a little annoying.
- Black Demons (1 task): WHY DID YOU ASSIGN ME 200+ OF THESE THINGS, RAPTOR. WHY. These spawn in the Chaos Tunnels, but a better location for them is Taverley Dungeon... which was packed with other Slayers for the exact same reasons as I was. Like Waterfiends, they require no special equipment and are weakest to crossbows, but I still went through most of my high-end food and needed to make frequent trips for more. They do sometimes drop baked potatoes with chili con carne, which helped stretch my food out a little, and some fabulously kind Luffy cosplayer started casting AOE healing spells toward the end. This would be a good normal Slayer task to cross-train Prayer with by bringing Infernal Urns to catch their ashes, possibly with a beast of burden Summon to carry them (and extra food).
- Hellhounds (1 task): After the Black Demons, this task was a relief. The best location for them is probably Taverley Dungeon, and they also spawn around the Wilderness Volcano, but I decided to go to Witchaven Ruins instead-- completely empty of other Slayers, and it just took a lever-flipping puzzle and some nuisance from ogres to get to the room where the hellhounds spawn. These require no special equipment and are weakest to swords, have relatively low hitpoints, defense, and to-hit ratings, and have no drops aside from bones and the odd Summoning charm, so it's a fast and easy task.
- Dagannoths (1 task): Even easier than hellhounds, I was done in under an hour. The best location for them is Waterbirth Island, where they appear by the swarm, so even with a bunch of other Slayers around it's a fast task. The melee-based Dagannoth are weakest to Earth spells; the range-based Dagannoth are weakest to melee (but AI knows not to let you get close). They've got a huge variety of drops, none of which really excited me at the time.
- Gargoyles (1 task): I got cocky, mistakes were made. These spawn in the Chaos Tunnels, but a better location for them is Slayer Tower. There were other Slayers there, and it's a more open area than the Aberrant Spectres spawn in, so it was a little tricky working out how to share. Gargoyles need to be shattered with a rock hammer when they're below 1000 hit points, but are otherwise weakest to Water spells or anti-demon swords (Silverlight is weak, Darklight is a little better). I actually ditched the weaknesses and went with my dragon-metal longsword, which in hindsight was a mistake because it was easy for the other Slayers to killsteal while I was still doing scratch damage. They've got a good variety of drops, particularly bars of steel, mithril, and adamant in banknote form and gems (not noted). I brought 20 Signs of the Porter and 6 monkfish, which was also a mistake: the Signs only pick up certain items, and gargoyles don't drop any of them. A full inventory of food and/or a beast of burden Summon would have been a much better choice. Lessons learned!

Gains: Plenty of combat skill levels, as well as Slayer, of course, and I've got all the crimson Summoning charms I'll need for a while (I was already rolling in gold charms and green charms).

And yes, I can believe The Raptor would have a rude response for anyone trying to back out of a Slayer task, though it's unlikely Jagex would actually program him to flip people off.

lol, runescape
