Dear Bones. Decent mecha animes are pretty lacking these days, and while I'm not exactly a connoisseur of the genre, I do enjoy some blood-pumping action from time to time. Now when I got wind that the main character in the show is piloting a feminine-esque mecha, I thought "Well hey, you know, this might be something new.".
But then I saw the first episode.
Again I thought, eh..well..the title probably doesn't hold much significance towards the show or anything. In fact, if I had to say, the premise sorta reminds me of Umi no Misaki meets Kannazuki no Miko. KnM was a bit of a trainwreck for me, but then again trainwrecks are a trademark for every lesbian-themed anime in existance, and since the male character looks like he has a penis (despite being voiced by Mamoru Miyano, don't get me started on the other guy voiced by Fukuyama Jun), I could only think that well, some fanservice (for both the guys AND the girls) here and there never hurt anyone.
But then the action started kicking in, and all was good, until..
Wait, what?
Unfortunately it doesn't stop here. Takuto joins in the Galactic Pretty Boy festivities, and does so with a FLOURISH, if I may say so.
I can imagine this guy in an Adam Lambert tone going "Oh well, you know, I took pointers from every mahou shoujo henshin sequence in existance, and I find my favourite pose to be from Sailormoon".
Like, really. Am I gonna have to sit through EVERY FUCKING EPISODE seeing everyone going GALACTIC PRETTY BOY every time he shows up in his fabulous looking uniform and mecha?
And the mecha designs look like someone got lazy and just copypasta'd from shows like Aquarion and GunXSword.
But despite all my complaining, there are some good things to say about the show. For starters, Maaya Sakamoto and Haruka Tomatsu as seiyuus. While it still remains to be seen whether or not Maaya will be singing in this one, Haruka Tomatsu did the insert song for the first episode and it was quite a beautiful one, though I'm really having second thoughts about the character she's portraying.
Oh, and did I mention that Akira Ishida's in this as well? So the seiyuu list in the show is quite a star-studded one, with even Miki Shinichiro voicing one of the characters. Alas, it all comes to naught if I'm going to have to hear everyone yelling GINGA NO BISHOUNEN every time they start fighting.
Oh well, at the very least I'll have Panty, Stocking and Garterbelt and Hyakka Ryouran to fall back on if this one's gonna blow. ANN has it listed at 13 episodes, so I'm not too sure if the plot's gonna go neck deep at a very rapid pace. Personally I wouldn't mind if they went for a full 24 episode season if it meant properly developing everyone's characters and what not, but eh..who am I to say?
