of sexy Arabs and adventure films

I'm watching The Mummy films. I don't know why it took me so long, remembering how in 1999 I was practically counting down the days to the premiere. Before it opened though, I left for a summer camp, and when I got back I forgot all about being excited about it. Only seeing the trailer for the third one - The Tomb of the Dragon Emperor reminded me.

The first movie was utterly charming. Silly and cheesy but all in a positive parody way. It had a wonderful lighthearted adventure feel And it really was entertaining and fun.

The second one I would have turned off if I wasn’t by then set on slashing O’Connel with Ardeth Bay. The movie committed almost every sin of a bad sequel. Artifacts that weren’t there, character butchering, suddenly warrior princesses, suddenly chosen ones, forced connections to the first movie, past life bullshit, dislikable new characters, really, really bad special effects and plot so thin, it could break any second.
But you know how it is once you /see/ the slash. It’s like an invisible third eye opens on your forehead and looking at the same screen starts watching a completely different movie. And when the original Mummy Returns got really bad, I just closed my two spare eyes and enjoyed the tragic story of Ardeth’s one sided love. It was really touching, and I almost cried at the ending. Does this guy have a fandom?

But thanks to that I’m no longer excited about the third movie. It will have twice the bad sequel elements and no Ardeth!
