In today’s episode of “OMG Set watched something awesome”: Finnish Zombies.
Yeah, not the most shocking concept, since Finland and the undead somehow *click*. Yet despite hosting zombiewalks so impressive that they actually made two last year in Helsinki (one nazi themed, just to celebrate Dead Snow’s premiere) I had trouble finding any actual Finnish zombie movies.
Fortunately, there is Kuolleiden Talvi. AKA Winter of the Dead. AKA Why Russians Zombies Should Think Twice Before Attacking Finland.
Finnish zombies
Finnish zombie fighters, perkele!
Yes, they are sitting comfortably under duvets, drinking vodka, smoking pipes and bickering with each other while zombie hordes are running at them ♥
True to the tradition of most popular Finnish movies, it is homemade and distributed completely for free on the Internet. Yet despite the nonexistent budget it was actually pretty solid. I thought me and sis would have a couple of laughs from amateurish cheesiness, but the only laughs we had was from the intended comedy parts.
The script was well written and made sense, the actors could act (as well as the main couple from Man Without a Past ;P), it seemed like the cameraman knew what he was doing (no awkward angles) and the soundtrack was surprisingly epic and fitting. It wasn’t maybe anything groundbreaking and original, but all in all a high quality piece of postapocalyptic zombie cinema (lol).
And if you’ve got 35 minutes to spare, I wholeheartedly
recommend.
