Vienna Day 1

Jul 10, 2010 04:30

The buildings here are absolutely gorgeous. Unfortunately, I forgot to make sure there were fresh batteries in my camera before we left, but I'm going to grab pictures from Jess. We went to the Belvedere, which is this gorgeous Baroque plalace that was turned into an art gallery. It has The Kiss by Gustav Klmit, which is apparently a very famous painting. It was certainly spectacular. The gardens there are also beautiful.

We stopped by a grocery store to pick up some lunch and ate that in the city park. Incidentally, it's amazing how much nicer heat is when there's no HUMIDITY! It was fairly warm, but not miserably uncomfortable. After lunch we walked around some more and stopped for Sacher torte. YUM. Incredibly rich, absolutely delicious. Jess, Jillian and I climbed the bell tower at Saint Stephen's cathedral. It was... rather tiring and a bit dizzy, but the view was definitely worth it.

After that we headed back to the hostel to get changed because Kim, Aislinn and I were going to a Mozart concert at the opera house. That was awesome, incidentally. The musicians were all in period dress. I managed to get batteries by then, so I have lots of pictures of the opera house. They did selections from Don Giovanni, The Marriage of Figaro and The Magic Flute as well as several other pieces. Absolutely spectacular.\

After the concert, we went and had gelato. Mmm, gelato.
